Stud mount rocker Push rod length???

Ok, i had another thread about stud or pedistal mount rockers, and i have my questions about that answered...
But now Final5-0 was trying to describe to me how exactly you choose the right push rods for your STUD mount rocker arms.... He gave me some links and things, but i am still really comfused...

WITH NO P.R. INSTALLED, Your rocker sits on the top of the valve stem, as it sits on the valve stem and the stud is up through the bottom, you can tighten or loosen the nut on top of the stud, as you change the nut, the rocker moves up or down on the stud and it changes the length of push rod that you need.... How do measure for what pushrod length you need, if by changing the nut on the stud, you can constantly change what size push rod will fit snuggly?

does that make sense??

Comp Cams has a good tutorial on their website on how to do it. The best way to determine the length you need is with an adjustable pushrod checker, changing the settings until you obtain the correct geometry of your valvetrain. When you mark the top of the valve tip, then turn the engine over, how wide should the rocker travel be across the top of the valve tip??
