Sorry to brigfn up the dreaded S word for those of us in the snowy states, but I gotta start lookign for snow tires for my daily driver. Who has used what brand of snow tires? I see Dayton Winterforce Tires and they look good and they can be studed. What other companies have studable snow tires? I had Nokian's once and the tread life was not that good.

Bridgestone Blizzaks kick butt in snow and especially on ice. No need for studding -- they use a special "cell" compound that act like tiny suction cups on ice.
They will wear like hell if you run them too long out of snow season -- dry pavement kills them. I used to run mine from mid-nov thru mid-march here in S. New Hampshire and would get about 3 seasons out of a set.

That's about what I got out of the Dayton Wintertrak's I used on my last car. I've had 2 sets of Dayton tires and one set of Nokian snow tires. A friend had blizzaks, they were ok.
Oh yeah I'm near Rochester NY, about 60 miles east of Buffalo, and we get a lot of lake effect and slippery, icy, wet, slushy snow every year.

I always had good luck with Blizzaks. I had them on my '86 LX Vert and never had problems for 5 years. Could have also been that it was a gutless v6 automatic and didn't have power, but hey, the tires were a good return on investment = 4 seasons.
Here's the tires I'm looking at..... $58 ea. Plus I can get studs if I want them, but I think I might try without them for a change.

One day last winter I saw no less than 6 cars in the median of the highway in less than 3 miles and the marks from at least 4 or 5 other cars that had gone into the median, but were gone by the time I went by. Crazy.

you are looking at 15" tires? I run 17s and they are $78 a piece. DOH! But I will be buying snow tires this winter. NJ isn't TOO bad, but it can be! I think I'll look into Blizzaks though.
