I recently said goodbye to the originalmotor in my 96 GT-a while back. While building the motor up, i purchased a motor from the virginia area said to be out of a 96 crown vic. what i dont understand is the car feels way more powerful than the original. i ran an 02' Gt that had 3.73's and off road x-pipe w/ flows and a cold air. the car only beat me by maybe a car length and that was after the quarter at well over 110. I though maybe his car spun but he said it didnt. are these motors supposed to run like that. My car has 3.73's, x-pipe and mac mufflers. both cars are standard transmission

ok, i did some searching & the 96 was a pre pi engine, & came with 220 hp, they didn't put pi heads on it until 2001, & even then it was rated at 235 (due to restrictions in exhaust) so what i'm thinking, is that with a better flowing exhaust, such as you have, a 96 c.v. engine would give you a little more boost, than your previous engine but hey that's really just a guess, hope it helps some

maybe the "newer" motor has less mileage? maybe ur old motor had a compression problem. why did the 96 crown vics have 220 hp rated with the ****ty exhaust??? that cant be right...

just what some crown vic guru said, i dunno if it's completely true. but i do think the c.v.'s exhaust is more restrictive, due to smaller diameter exhaust

That would be my guess. They have to make them quiet because 90% of them are driven by little old ladies that drive 10 under and can't see over the steering wheel.

CV's came with a single 2" exhaust but i think an option was dual 2" which brought it up 5 hp
