Stupid Ford...I need help

OK, lets see, CEL says bad TPS, that was fixed. Battery tester at Autozone said bad battery, that's fixed. After a good day and a half, my car craps out again, with the same problems as before. I was driving and it just died. It will start, but without giving it gas, it will just die. Fuel Pump?? The wrecker driver messed around with it and unscrewed a cap underneath the hood and some gas squirted out, he said it should be squirting alot more LOL...Any opinions on this or should I just go put my car out of its misery?

Is your cel on again?, do you have a code scanner, any other codes pull up?? You could chk codes, (if you don't have a scanner, really cheap at any auto parts store) see if any codes pull up, you could also get a fuel pressure guage and see what your pulling at idle, I guess it could be your fuel pump, but may wanna chk fuel pressure or see if there are any codes before dropping the tank. Maybe tfi, I've heard if they are bad once the car warms up it'll die, maybe pip, but I thought the car woudn't start if thats the case(could be wrong) Also, you could chk basics, plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, regulator, chk voltage to maf or just clean it ( when my maf went out the thing would barely idle).

Was the cap on the silver/metal rail on the engine? If so, the guy opened the schrader valve to check the fuel pressure. If the engine's not holding steady fuel pressure (38psi), you won't get enough fuel at idle.

If the driver's correct, it's either your fuel pressure regulator (cheaper & easier to replace), or the fuel pump (not as easy or cheap). Check it yourself, by renting or buying a tool to check the fuel pressure. It hooks up to the schrader valve.

You are likely gonna have to do some testing before people can help you more. A bad IAC can cause stalling, if that is your only issue (you did not give spefics on how or under what conditions it stalls).

Both getting new codes and checking FP are great ideas and where I would start myself. Or if you have a prolonged time when it dies and wont start, check for spark.

How do I check for spark? As for when it dies, the two or three times it has done it, it has been at a prolonged redlight. There were no idle problems, it just, all of a sudden cuts off.

grab a spare spark plug. Remove a plug wire from a plug in the motor. install the spare plug into the plug wire. set the spare plug on the upper intake so the threads make good contact with the metal intake. now go crank the motor over and watch for spark bridging the plug gap.

Wait, did you check for spark when it would not start/run (like when it dies while you are driving it)?

Otherwise, the test is invalid. Just like if the problem is your fuel pump but you test it for pressure early in the morning (when the car usually starts). That would reveal nothing - it needs to be tested once the car wont start.

I tested it like it sits; trying to start, but not fully cranking or starting.

when the pip went out on mine it would run fine, then just die, wouldnt start for a while, then crank up and run fine again, msd distributor fixed that

If when you try to start, the motor turns over (whir whir whir), but it does not 'catch' (start and idle), it cranks but wont start. You would have a hard time testing for spark if it wont 'crank'. I think it was just semantics here.

So I take it that it only cranks (would not catch and run on its own - just like it does when it takes a poo)..?? At that point, I would try cycling the ignition key to the run position (the last position before cranking) a couple times before ever trying to start. That will build fuel pressure. A fuel pressure gauge would help with diagnostics since you apparently have spark at this point (when it wont start). That suggests the TFI and PIP are alright. I would be lookin at fuel pressure or other ancillary issues. Good luck.

A list of mods on your car would be helpful, but if the fuel pump isn't the problem after checking it like the others said check your starter. A friend of mine had a similar problem where his car would stall while running or driving randomly. Ford said it was his computer, he later found out his starter wire was loose. He tightened it and everything was good.

I finally got ahold of a fuel pressure gauge. I got readings of 24, 36, 40, 40, 40. Does this seem like a good pump?

what are the different numbers? If each number represents the reading after a new priming of the pump, that looks pretty decent to me.

Moving onto air issues, I cleaned the MAF and crossed my fingers that it worked...it didnt A guy at a local mustang shop suggested it was the MAF or something along those lines, since the fuel pump checked out. Can a MAF sensor go bad, as opposed to just being dirty?

Cleaned the MAF and TB some more, it almost worked. It ran for just a second before dying, after i took my foot off the gas, instead of dying right away, like before cleaning.
