When I purchased my 66 Mustang a few years ago it came with a cut out in the hood. The old owner was going to put in a hood scoop. My "stupid" question is, if a hood scoop is fully functional in which it allows air to flow in, than how can you drive it in the rain? Wouldn't the rain get into the motor?

What am I missing?

The hood scoop will allow water into the engine compartment but the ducting and positioning of the air filter housing keeps it out of the intake. On my 66 it just opens up to the metal flat portion of the airfilter or did before I installed this supercharging hat.
