Stupid question, but valid

Hey all,

I am the proud new owner of a new 07 GT, and had a really stupid question about it. How many of you drive with your fog lights on? Do they function as a wide area low beam, or are they more situated as a high beam? I realise that the high beams are turned on seperately, but what I'm wondering is if the fog lights look light high beams to other drivers on the road.

I know personally, I HATE it when the person behind be drives with thier brights on all the time. Nothing is more annoying/rude. I don't want to blind other drivers on the road, despite that it happens to me on a daily basis. So my question is, how do the fog lights affect other drivers, and how many of you drive with them turned on, on a public road, on a regular basis?

They are low and wide angle....and they do annoy some other drivers.
I always drive with them on.
I'm more concerned with spotting deer and bears on the side of the road than with the feelings of other drivers.
I sometimes go weeks without being flashed, then sometimes get flashed twice in the same night.
I just flash them back, and we all continue on our merry way. :D

+1 on this. I love when people flash me. They quickly realize that those weren't the high beams :rlaugh:

I also drive with mine on all the time. I have never been flashed at...yet. To me I do it because it looks cool. I like the way they look when I see other GT's at night behind me.

I leave them on because the low beams alone seem almost useless. Besides, they do look awesome.:D I've only been flashed three times, one was by a driver with the typical GM "aim for the sky" foglights on.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't like pissing off other drivers, and I know that it REALLY annoys me with the people around here running thier brights at all times.

I think I'll give it a shot with them on, and see if I get any slack from other drivers. I agree, they do look cool.

Again, thanks for the help guys. I'm loving it here on :SNSign:now that I have my car. Seems like a lot of forums for other cars are filled with people who could care less about helping out someone with a valid question... even if it is a boring and slightly dumb one. You guys are great!!!

You know I am really glad you posted this. I have had the problem of when I run with them other drivers flash me, thinking I am high beaming them. I really like the way my car looks with the fog lights on, and they really make a huge difference in sight.

So here is what I am gonna do. Buy the GE bulbs for my driving lights and start useing the fog lights all the time.

I've met enough 05-up's on the road to say that this foglight setup is totally unoffensive to the eyes, and my eyes are incredibly sensitive to light. Most cars fog lights utterly blind me, but these don't (except for Pony Package cars). I think most of the people flashing are simply having a Pavlovian response to seeing four lights.

Have them on only when I need them (i.e. fog, rain, lousy weather)...besides they're not that easy to replace...unless you like tearing apart your front grill...also if you use them all the time it will be Murphy's Law that you will need them and they will have burned out. Use them for what they're intended for and not just because they look "cool."

Fogs in the UK

I live in England (retired military, wife works for bases, I teach college on Air Force base) and use the fogs as my daytime and early evening lights. Small white lights - called "side lights" here, are required, so I had the bulbs installed in the vent holes in my fogs. Not bright enough to do any good, so I use the fogs and let them know I'm coming - it works! When just headlights are turned on, the small lights are also on, so always have the four lit up at night - a different look! Although it is illegal to drive with just fogs here, no cops question it - they are too busy admiring the very unusual sight of a 'Stang!
