Stupid Question

I have a 99 GT with a automatic. I can't spin the tires by just stomping the gas evwn with trac control off. Is this common with any one else who has an auto or do I have something wrong. I can spin them burn out style but they won't spin just hitting the gas all the way.

I dont have an automatic, but my understanding is that if you want to break the tires loose like that, you'll need 4.10 gears or do a brake stand.

Heres another stupid question

I did a brake stand the other night and got some nice clutch smell going on. Clutch is fine, its just that it still smells after 2 days, progressivly going away, but I was wondering if this is a big deal or not.

It's common. You have nothing wrong.

Describe your technique. If you rev it to a couple of thousand, pop the clutch and then stand on the brake, letting the back wheels spin while modulating the brake pressure just enough to keep the front wheels locked you should not smell any clutch...

However, with the brake on and the back wheels turning, you are heating the back brakes up and the smell will be similar...

I seem to be able to do it. just sitting there and then mashing the gas to the floor I get a little spin.

I dont have a problem in my 01 GT auto and its stock.. I just shift down to 1st gear and stomp on it.. it will peel out pretty good and chirp second.. if I jam it up over 5600 RPMS..
