What is a torque arm ? I broke a upper control arm & im changing my rear set up . Looking @ MM control arms upper & lower with a panhard bar . They sell a kit with a torque arm . What does it do & where does it mount? I had Lakewoods upper & lower & snapped one going new route !
Torque arm is what Camaros have. It will replace your 4 -link with a 3 -link and a panhard bar. Supposed to be better handling Good upper/lowers and a panhard seems just as good IMO. The torque arm will require some kinda mods, but not sure what and you will loose more ground clearence. If your not gonna compete in NASA or SCCA its not worth the money IMO .
torque arm is a triangular brace that runs from the rear of the tranny to the axle to prevent wheel hop. this is usually coupled with a panhard to prevent side to side movement. it is superior to the 4-link set up, but unless you are doing some serious racing its not worth the money.
So i should just stay with new control arms and a panhard bar . Sounds like it will help keep my rear end centered . Something gave to break the end off my upper arm or i got one with a bad weld . They was new & stored for winter then 2months in paint shop .
i saw one set up where the torque arm is bolted to the upper half of the diff using the cover holes an goes up under the rear seat area. this one connected to a bar that run between the sub frame connectors. from what i've read you want all your suspension parts to be from the same supplier since they use different mounting points an techniques. i believe the pan hard bar also prevents you from running the tail pipes.
I just got the broken one off & looks like a s@@t weld to me no penatration ! If that how u spell it !Still going with new Upper & Lowers & still lookin @ panhard bar !! What do you think ?
