I just got some new subs in box for my 02 coupe and was wondering if anyone else has had problems with getting a box to fit in the back of the extremely small trunk? lol. I got the box in...however, at the cost of my spare tire, and now that the spare tire is gone, the small spare tire covering is too flimsy to hold up the subs on top of it. However, I couldnt get the subs in there without taking out the sparetire. They wont fit through the inside due to the amp rack and a small metal lip hanging down. Anyone have any ideas or links to how to get a set of boxed subs in my car preferably without the cost of my sparetire, and a solid floor for them to sit on?

As of right now I plan on taking out the 6x8's that are in the back, since they hang down in the trunk and take out the bit of plastic that is inbetween the 2 amps (on mach 460 system). This would allow me to push my sub box in between the 2 mounted amps, though I have no idea how to do this yet or IF I should do this. This would allow me to put my spare tire back in place and still have trunk room where the lid opens instead of near my back seats, since the subs wont go more than 3 or so inches from the back of the car trunk. Any input or ideas are much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Here are the box dimensions:

Model DC10
Nominal Impedance [Zn], ohm [per enclosure] 2 or 4
Resonance Frequency [fb or fo], Hz 40
Sensitivity [SPLo], dB @ 1W, 1m 98.4
Effective Excursion [EXmax™], in (mm) .38 (9.76)
Power Handling Watts, Peak (RMS) 600 (300)
Enclosure Top Surface Depth, in (cm) 13 7/16 (34)
Enclosure Bottom Surface Depth, in (cm) 16 7/16 (41.7)
Enclosure Height, in (cm) 14 (35.5)
Enclosure Width, in (cm) 28 (71.1)

Or see the enclosure at kicker.com -> products->enclosures->comp boxes-> itll be the first enclosure on the feed. (holds 2 x's 10" kicker comp C104's)

I think with our trunks, the best solution is to make your own box (out of fiberglass) and put it in the spare tire well. Thats the only way I could get one to fit in my car. I tried other setups with regular mdf boxes and it just was never right. I would say if you are going to keep the box you have, just make a new false floor out of mdf to cover the spare tire well. Or if you are into fabrication, make a fiberglass enclosure...

I remember doing an install in a mustang and the box that the guy brought in just would not fit into the trunk. The guy gave us permission to cut the metal around the back seat entrance into the trunk to get the box in.

When you cut around the metal, did it affect the stability or anything of the back of the car? Also, how had was it to cut though the 3/4" length of metal? Even if I do this, the speaker and amp rack that hangs down in the trunk is in the way . I have my speakers in the trunk, just not where I want them and not secure. I think I'm just going to take out the amp rack and rear speakers and then move my subs underneath of where the amp rack used to be, facing them towards the rear seats so I can put them down and have great sound and look. Ill just mount the factory amps on the side of my sub box.

Question:
What will happen to my mach 460 system if I take out the 2 rear speakers? I know right now there are 2 x 85 watt amps powering 6 speakers....but they will be reduced to 4. Will it be too much power ect.? Any input about this would be great. Thanks.

Stability of car not effected because it was just the metal around the back seat entrance...and JUST enough to get the box through....

As far as your mach question...not that familiar with machs...but seem slike it should work fine with just 4 speakers....i don't foresee a problem, unless it's wired up all strange where other speakers cut out just from the 2 not being there....but other than that--u should be ok
