My wife's first car is a 96 v6 5speed car with 230K on it. As a graduation gift for completing her masters, I want to drop in a V8 making around 450 at the feet and be able to put it on the ground. This is my first big project and I have serveral questions about how to do it for the right money. Any postive feedback will be greatly appreciated.

By the time you swapped everything, it would be cheaper and a lot easier to just find a Cobra in that body style, if she wants a v8. You can supercharge it and hit your horsepower numbers.

This has been asked on multiple threads. Here is one example of the swap:

Converting a V-6 Mustang to V-8 Power - 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine

As you can see from the description and the pictures this is not an easy project. Especially if you are a first timer. I have done a good amount of projects on my mustang but I cannot comfortably say that I could do the entire swap myself.

I would recommend one of three options:
1) You do the swap with someone who knows mustangs really well or is a certified mechanic.
2) You have a professional do the swap (big time labor costs)
3) You do as described above and buy a newer GT or cobra (or one of the 2011/2012 v6's )

96-98 GT's are pretty affordable....waste of time to swap

This is a really bad idea. Clearly you haven't researched this at all.

Buy a V8, and dont be disappointed when it doesn't make 450rwhp!

~325 w/ bolt on parts (including headers). 350 would likely require cams.

close enough....325hp + 4.10's will suffice

either way. a cam install would still be easier than swapping everything over from a v8 and THEN mod that for "450hp"

if your going to drop in a engine and want power right off the start drop in the new 5.0 not the old 4.6.

Only people who will know it's a sleeper are other Mustang enthusiasts. When a ricer beats a V6 he thinks he did something. All he knows it was a Mustang. he won't know he ass was handed to him but a "sleeper" V6.

anyone can make their gt a 'sleeper'. change the front bumper, premium wheels and put pony emblems on the side of the car. the effect is the same with not nearly as much work involved.
