Drivetrain "Super Street" T5 Gearset, Supposed to be Good for 450 FWHP

FWHP is nearly irrelevant when talking about a transmission. How much torque is the thing rated for?

Regardless, the weakest link will still be 3rd gear and the T-5 case. When you lay down a bunch on torque in third, the gears get forced apart until the case splits.

Will reinforced gears help? I'm sure. Will it help the T-5 case? I dunno

Anyone think the stock case, that gearset, a stock mainshaft and a cluster gear support plate will hold a Blueprint 347 with 415tq with no drag launches, street tires and like a 3.55 or 3.73 rear gear?

If you treat it right, it will be fine. My Cooper Cobras are the fuse between my Kenne Bell stroker combo and my bone stock (except for steel bearing retainer) WC T5.

My 331 is 460ish at the flywheel. 275/40R17 Nitto 555R’s with a T5. T5 was recently gone through and we replaced some parts due to wear (it had been 15 years and a couple of 306’s since it was last rebuilt) and it has the billet cluster support plate. Zero issues as the tires spin. I am working on gathering parts to go to a T56 as I want to beat on the car but do not want to implode a perfectly good T5.

I would say a 347 would have the opportunity to be harder on a T5 due to it being able to generate more torque.

As far as I know, Tony, the guy who was running Astro, is out of business. His dad still has a transmission parts business that has Astro in the name, but I've been told he doesn't sell the gearsets Tony was using.

That is correct. Astro is out of Florida and still has some of the best prices on Tremec parts. I will say that the last time I got some parts to freshen up the T5 they said the original Tremec parts for them are drying up and aftermarket is all there is now.

IMO once you exceed the power levels of a NA 302, just skip to the TKX.
Personally i consider sticky tires a necessity, not an option. What's the point of all the power if the tires don't hold?
And once you goto stickier tires with 400rwtq you are at risk of breaking any kind of T5.

If your T5 is good now, sell it, do a tkx or t56.
Once you break it, it's nearly worthless.
Everything is risk/reward. I think the risk is too high to dump that money into a T5.
