I have been throwing this around in my head for the last cpl of days.. I have the $ to get a used supercharger setup (still looking for a basic bolt-on VORTECH Setup) and would like to run a BOV (compared to running a Bypass valve).. I have done some research and have come to the conclusion that I may also need a MAF that will work with this. I would like to be lead in the right direction as to How I would run the whole setup with the BOV.. and if the MAF will REALLY be needed.. Just wondering because I want to do this right the first time and have everything I need to do the add on... Also will a MAF REALLY be needed?.. or is there a way to run it so i won't need to upgrade.. Can I run it temporarily without the MAF that may be needed for now and get that after the install? ( I believe i may lose power by doing this and it will mess with the sensor because I will have have air discharging and the EEC will be out of wack thus making the car run lean at a given point) Just want to set everything straight so i know what I will need to get to run it.:nice:

EDIT: I HAVE A '90 5.0 in my Ride

Oh Yeah I know some people will cringe at the thought of a BOV on a supercharger.. so PLEASE refrain making this a 1000 page Joe Thread LMAO (I read his old thread on BOV's)

Well, some people have managed to get away with a BOV on the stock "type" maf set-up. However, I can say with *nearlly* 100% positivity that their car was not running optimun. More than likely running way too rich on dexcelleraion.

With that said, you can switch over to whats called a "Blow-thru" MAF and be able to handle the BOV. However, the cost of doing this is simply way too much just so you use a BOV. Just use your lips and go "PSSSHHH" when you shift. Problem solved.

Wait, you car is an 86? So you are still speed density? In that case, you can probably get away with a BOV without getting a maf period...However, be carefully cause speed density can only handle so much... dang.. I should have caught that. Of course, if you did a Mass Air Conversion... my previous statment still stands.

how does a blow thru maf differ from a normal one? and why wouldnt the problem of running rich happen w/ a blow thru?

With a draw through MAF(stock type), the meter is placed before the supercharger, which means that if you use a blow off valve it would be blowing off air that had already been registered by the meter.....which in turn would create a rich condition. With a blow through meter....the meter can be placed after the supercharger. This would allow you to place a blow off valve between the supercharger and the MAF. In this case you would be blowing the air off before it is registered by the meter and wouldnt get an inaccurate reading.
