Superchargers

im looking to take the next step in going fast so ive been looking into a supercharger. i know it sucks that i will loose my jlt cold air and steeda udp but you gotta do what u gotta do to go fast. what chargers are you guys running and what do u suggest as a good deal for the money (cuz im not rich). i think i want a twin screw cuz i want power now but like i said im just not sure.

The Ford Racing (Whipple) twin screw system is a great set up that's complete with a GT500 fuel system and harness, all needed parts, even spark plugs. Many of the parts are Ford OE and the fit and finish is superb.

Agreed. I'd either go with the Whipple kit or a Saleen kit brenspeed or someone similar. It depends on your ultimate goals too.

Ditto on the Ford Whipple.. The 550HP kit is very very great! Ive heard nothing but fantastic things... Thats wut im getting and all in all for the entire kit with instalation and a custom dyno, my price quote $8500... If your gana get a SC id def recomend the 550HP whipple

If money is an issue (like in my case), I'd recommend a basic centrifugal blower. I bought a new Vortech V2 S-trim for $3700 (complete kit with tuner, fuel pump, injectors, etc.). Paid $899 for installation at a local shop, $140 for better spark plugs, and $450 for custom dyno tuning (half of which was geared toward the transmission & stall converter, so only half was specific to the blower). So, I spent a grand total of $5,200 for everything, and my heavy, well-optioned automatic GT coupe runs 12.30's @ 111+ in the 1/4 mile to show for it with 100% stock engine, stock exhaust, and stock suspension.

Sure, the twin screws and HO intercooled centri's make more power than mine, but they cost a lot more. Not all of us are rich, as you pointed out, so the non-cooled centri's are great for us guys on a budget and they are upgradable for more power later as budget allows.

Too bad they are out of this world with the pricing, too. It really looks like a good kit but for nearly $10,000 for a complete kit with fuel pumps, tuning, gauges, etc it better be !!

I'm not a rich man, but the initial cost is secondary to me.
What do I get in the way of value?

The 500hp Ford kit looks appealing to me (thinking of buying a new 2009) despite the sticker price.
I want the car to perform first, but it also must be driveable for my wife and maintenance friendly for me. Saving a few bucks isn't worth it to me if the car turns out to be a moody, expensive piece of dog feces.

What about the factory hood?
Is an aftermarket or Shelby bulged hood needed for any of the popular blowers?

Just trying to learn before I throw down the cash.

The Whipple fits under the stock hood - barely. Nobody makes a strut tower brace that will clear the Whipple CAI tube with the stock hood. I'm going to build a custom CAI tube and strut tower brace to fit my Whipple and the stock hood.

I don't know of a blower kit that won't fit under the factory hood. Some of the aftermarket hoods with ducts for air will have clearances problems usually on the front (snout) end of the blower.

My Vortech V2 fits nicely and looks like a factory installation. No hood clearance issues whatsoever, and strut braces fit with no problem. Car is gentle to drive at normal throttle positions (makes boost as revs climb, not instantly like a whipple) so even my wife can drive the car with ease.

I installed my whipple 1 year ago
It is fun as hell

the best thing is that you can drive it really well even in traffic

very good reliability
on tracks it is very good , but you have to get accustomed to it
i used it on a strip once , killing a 10 pot bimmer (m5)
the guy at the end of the strip got out of the car and asked me : wtf of car is this ?!? and threw his keys on the asphalt ... lol
I told him , it's a mustang
him what ?
me : a ford
and he went away ... asking what is a stang to his friends
here in italy there are so few

Any choice you make , drive safely and enjoy your car .

Eldebrock makes a very nice supercharger now. Its getting some high hopes from people.
At very low boosts, it is producing a lot of power. For 5775, you get everything cept a fuel pump. The basic kit is design to produce 400hp with your stock pump, but comes INTERCOOLED.

The higher end kit comes with a GT 500 pump, and the CIA the made for it. It will go for about 6k.

Waiting to hear more about this setup.

Yeah, I saw that in a copy of 5.0&SF the other day. It seems as though they're using the Eaton TVS spec rotors and case with it as well. Should be good for making a lot of power.

I just hate how they whore the "Edelbrock" nameplate all over the thing. It’s as bad as stickers all over an engine IMO. There's something to be said for "subtle" marketing. I wish companies like BBK would get the hint too.

Also the side covers can be removed and not installed. In truth though, I do not mind them.

I bought a VERY lightly used Roush 445 on Ebay...just got it all installed...making 387 HP and 371 Torque...that is SAE. That is with a 2.57" pulley and a steeda Cold Air Intake.

There are going to be lots of those used available, as many folks are upgrading to Kenne Bells or the new Roush TVS.

If I were buying new, I'd look at a nastier setup than what I've got...I'd shoot for 450 at the rear wheels. That was my original goal, but my Ebay deal was too good to pass up, and I'm all about bang for the buck.

I'd look at:

Kenne Bell
Roush TVS
Whipple / Ford Racing

I'd probably go with the Roush TVS. It is a nasty sucker, fits great, and can put down 800 horsepower to the rear wheels if you have a forged bottom end and a fuel pump that can handle it.
