Supercharging a Custom n/a Cam?

I have a custom FTI cam setup for my afr 165/ fti cam/ cobra intake combo. I also have an approximate 9:5:1 compression motor. I am thinking about either supercharging or possibly turboing my car but how will that react with my cam? On the dyno my powerband basically dies out at 5.5k. I don't really want to yank my cam because I'm trying to do this whole plan as cheap as possible(yes I know this isn't the best idea). Bless me with your knowledge stangnet, :SNSign: Thanks!

WOW

If you only knew how many times I have thought about your Q ;)

Believe it or not ... I also thought about it before I did my current combo

Its been great and all :nice: .........

but like you ... I'd like to find more

Not having seen your cam specs
but
having seen several other Ed Curtis SN95 specs

I'd bet your suspicions about not currently being setup for an ideal forced combo are warranted.

My gut feeling about it is ............

I think we got a bit too much compression and the cam is just not all that suited for forced induction.

As for the die at 5500 thing ... I'd be looking at the intake

Ya...I figured the intake was the main cause of me running out of power that early. The main reason I ask is because honestly it is between supercharging my car or getting a crotch rocket, haha. As far as an intake what you reccomend to get a broaded powerband? Also will this have a negative affect as far as driveability goes because I got a SCT chip custom burned for my current setup, therefore, throwing it off by switching intakes?

You could just go to an intake with shorter runners for more effective top end power production.

You also should look at the things Tom has done with porting a Cobra intake.

IMHO, I just don't see how either of those two options would render your current chip burn as being ineffective.

Post up your pull :D ...... We wanna see it

If you got numerical values ... Please include them as well ;)

Specifics of combo would be great too :)

I am at school now but this weekend I will post the specs on the dyno and my cam spec sheet. In the meantime my mods are the following:

Jasper Performance Short Block (308ci) Approx 9:5:1
AFR 165 Heads
FTI Custom Ground Cam
Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 Roller Rockers
Roller Master Double Roller Timing Chain
ASP Underdrive Pulleys
Romac 50oz Race Harmonic Dampener
Air Conditioning Removed
Smog Pump / EGR Removed
SCT Custom Chip
Fuel System:
24 lb Injectors
Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator
Walbro 255 lpm Fuel Pump
Exhaust:
BBK Equal Length Shorty Headers (Ceramic Coated)
Flowmaster Delta Force Cat-Back Exhaust
Off-Road H-Pipe
Intake:
Ported Cobra Upper and Lower Intake Manifolds
65mm Ford Racing Throttle Body
75mm Pro-M MAF
Mac Cold Air Intake
Drive train:
Ford Racing King Cobra Clutch
BBK Adjustable Quadrant and Cable
Pro 5.0 Short Throw Shifter
Ford Racing 3.73 Gears

This is basically the car as I got it and the previous owner said the compression was approx 9:5:1 but I have yet to call Jasper about the block(I have the reciept and all info).

I bet your car would haul azz on juice.

The best nitrous cars are ones that run very strong NA. In another thread someone said that they run a "nitrous cam"... I asked what that was because I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a nitrous cam. I do think there is such thing as a forced induction cam though.

I'm willing to bet if you asked Ed or Jay or Buddy for a "nitrous cam" they would tell you there is no such thing. I say if you want a power adder with this setup, N2O is the way to roll.

My thoughts are the same as Grady's in terms of intakes... I think an RPM (or Typhoon if you can't find one), or RPMII would be a good fit.

Don't know if anyone else saw it but ...............

I did see today from the updated sig he is using a Cobra that is already ported.

From what I've seen Tom say and some of the charts where ported Cobra intakes were used ..........

I wonder why the power is flat line at 5500

Maybe the intake is not the prob
