Hi all,
Hope to get some ideas about how to solve this suspension issues On my 90 GT I have Bilstein all around. At the front I have BSN-F4V36413bh5 (BSN-35-041382)and have a noise specially out of the driver side strut. The strut has no leaks and damps very good but there is a play and knocking sound when pushing/pulling from the top of the tire. It seems like the cartridge is moving inside the yellow tube.
If anyone is using the same struts did you have or having the same issue? If you fixed it how did you resolved that?
On the pic I indicate with a green arrow the point where I feel of a bit of too much play and the rd arrows the the direction the cartridge moveing inside the yellow tube (not talking up/down but Inward/outward)
The noise is too annoying considering that those struts are stiff, have polyurethane control arm bushings and spherical camber plate bearings. So the suspension is very solid and any over play magnifies the noise exponentially.
Those struts aren’t cheap as to have the replace them…

I appreciate any help regarding this issue

the yellow cover metal?
Is the yellow cover contacting the tube inside?
I had a rattle and it was the cover that broke loose, I would some cloth material and loosely push some into the top of the yellow tube and check if the rattle goes away.

Yes that yellow piece is a seamless tube and have the two plates bracket where the spindle is bolted. The cartridge is bolted at the bottom of the tube.
The yellow tube has something similar to a seal on the lip where the cartridge is inserted.
That sounds like a good idea to stuff some liner as you’re suggesting, I’ll try that.
Thanks

I have some bilstein struts sitting in their boxes in my garage. I can see if they do what you are describing unless that’s not very helpful.

I ordered mine from MM so I can’t guarantee the P/Ns are the exact same though.

I bought mine from Summit Racing and didn’t have that much play as new, there must be some sort of teflon collar on the strut body lip where the cartridge slides in which probably is a bit worn out.
Thanks

It seems by judging from this blurred pic the strut tube has a plastic bushing inserted at the top of it, I wonder if I can make a tighter fit self lubricating plastic insert to eliminate the excessive cartridge play inside the strut tube, or if it is there a replacement bushing/insert available please share…

Thanks

Following up on the issue described on this post I just contacted Bilstein technical support trying to find out if the strut body tube has an insert bushing at the top of the tube and if they have some sort of replacement kit, but have no idea how long would I get a reply.
In the meantime if you have had experienced an issue like mine and found the solution to it please feel free to comment, I will certainly appreciate any help.
Thank you and have Happy holidays!!!

It has been always too stiff from day one but I’m getting too tired of it.
