Finally got my '66 mustang 5.0 efi registered and inspected... still lots of issues to fix before the paint process.

My drivers side fender to tire gap is very bad, i cannot fit a finger between the two - whereas the P/S I have about 2" gap between the tire and fender. Since the EFI I had to lose my export brace, but I installed a monte-carlo bar. I plan to fab an export brace, but it probably wont be too soon. Work is 1.2 miles away so it's not going to endure too long of a drive.

I jacked up the d/s frame rail and let it sit for about 5 mins. I lowered it, and it was a little higher then the 2" p/s. I pushed downward on the fender to make the car bounce and it seemed to even out with the p/s, but it was maybe a little higher still. As soon as I left the driveway I could hear the rubbing during the turn, and now it's back to where it was. Does this mean my springs are bad (not original, less than 10k miles but about 6-8 years old) or possibly the shocks? I have done the shelby mod - that was quite a while ago. The car's been sitting for quite some time, in different locations moving every couple years. (I did keep up with the engine maintenance)

It idles fine, but backfires through the exhaust during WOT and feels hesitant right before it backfires.. I'm going to research that right now, but I could use some help with this suspension issue and the latter issue if you have advice on that.

i would do something to install some sort of brace from the fire wall to shock towers. ford designed the car that way for obvious reasons. so i would say every day you drive the car without the export brace, you put a lot of extra wear and stress on the front end.

and to all who 'over mod' their cars, these things are 40 plus years old. be careful with all those extras, they may just cause more headache than they are worth.

goodluck from a fellow stang driver.

Workin' on it.. I'd like to put together something like what JamesW has:

Create a Custom Hydraulic Clutch System for T

thankya for the reply!

Can anyone help me verify if my springs are the cause in the ride height drop on the d/s? (i like the stance, but the rubbing is irritating)
