For anyone out there that has been to this point, please help.
I am looking at replacing the worn OEM suspension for the front/ rear end of my 67 coupe. I have seen in magazines kits like Grab-a-Trak that run about $500 for new leafs, springs, shackles, shocks, sway bar, end links and bushings. I dont think i want to go as expensive as coil over.
It has a 347/ C4 in it and will mainly be a street cruiser/ daily driver in nice weather. I dont expect to see the track too often (cause my wife wont let me) so what can anybody suggest? Is there a better kit out there? What do they usually cost and is it that much of a hassle to put it on after the vehicle is assembled?
I was thinking of doing power steering too (its expensive) so if anyone has any ideas on that im all ears.

Thanks.

I recently installed a Grab-A-Trac kit in my 65 coupe. I'm very happy with it so far. I did add Opentracker roller spring perches and roller idler arm. I can tell you that it is amazing the difference in ride from tired old sloppy suspension to all new stuff.
Mine's set up for about the same driving as what you are looking for. I had power steering but the pump died last week and actually like the feel of no power steering now. Power steering was great for pulling out of the driveway and really slow turns like parking but was a little too loose for spirited driving on the road for me. I like being able to feel the turns more now. Just my .02
Oh and it was all pretty easy to install, I striped all the crap off the wheel wells when I did mine and repainted them so it took a lot longer than just replacing parts.
If you do some searching on here there are 100's of posts about suspension with lots of good info.
Good luck!

+1 on the grab a trak system. Helped a friend put one on his 67 a couple of weeks ago. I would suggest you replace or at minimum rebuild the upper and lower control arms. The bushings get old and worn out as do the ball joints. If the arms are in good shape (no cracks or bends) then a rebuild kit can save you a little money. If doing the whole thing at once is too tough on the wallet, you can do it in stages of front and rear. I suggest callinh Mustangs Plus so they can help you select the right items based on your needs and other components. There are different spring sizes and rates that will affect ride height and tire clearance. Last thing you want is to spend money and time installing only to find out your wheels no longer fit.

Not to hijack . . . but do you have to do much to switch to non-power steering? I'm not trying to be lazy, just don't have too much time for searches these days (new baby!). My PS is in need of some work, and I'm considering giving manual steering a go. Similar driving needs to what both of you have posted so far. TIA!

I had a post last week about this. My power steering pump took a poop on my way home from work and don't really feel like spending or can justify the money to get a new one right now as little as I drive it. So from the advice of fellow stangneters', I simply am running it without the belt hooked up. The way my pump died it is leaking a little fluid out of the bottom of it, must have cracked. So far so good with driving it. Just a gives you a good workout pulling out of the driveway or parking! Hopefully it's not doing any damage to the rest of the steering by driving it like this. So far so good!

Well from what it sounds like the suspension will be a go, and I think I am going to start out with manual steering as I dont really see myself zigging and zagging through traffic.
Thanks.

Some questions for anyone out there who has used these products.
Looking through Mustangs Plus web/ catalog it gives me a few options when ordering.
I want to upgrade the suspension.
They offer various kits. I have my eye on the grab-a-trak spring and handling kit along with the performance suspension rebuild kit:

Questions:
Is a 4 leaf standard sping good or would a mid/ reverse eye spring work better (I have no idea what that is), 4 1/2 spring or 5 spring?
How thick is a good thickness on a front sway bar?
Will polyurethane spring perches work better than rubber?
How thick should the spring insulators be?

It will be a daily driver except in the snow.
Thanks for the help.

I would go here ......

Go to Opentracker Racing Products

Opentracker Racing Products

They can put a kit together depending on what you want.

I would also do the 1" UCA Arning drop while I had all this stuff off the car.

I would also definitely get a roller idler arm and roller spring perches
