i'm going to be dropping a 351 into my '87 GT at some point over the next year and want to get some ideas on what suspension you guys would run. i'm wanting to set it up as a comfortable daily driver with the occasional autocross or roadcourse. i've been told the eibach pros and kyb shock/strut package would be a good street setup. i definitely want to lower the ride height slightly but nothing "in the weeds". i'm not sure at all what to do about shocks/struts. i've read some archived stuff about ditching the quad shocks and the concensus seems to be to keep them in place??? how wide of tire/wheel package will fit under the fenders both front and rear?

i'm also planning on coverting to a 5 lug and rear disc, if that should make a difference on recommendations.

x2. if you do shocksstruts and springs, your still gonna have chassis flex and a flimsy feel in the steering.

maximum knows what there doing and what you need is exactly what its designed for. take it from me, i did cheap springs, shocks/struts and regret it, im not piecing together a r&t box.

MM road and track box

i've heard good things about MMs stuff and have heard that the "box" set does work very well. but i haven't noticed where anyone here has used their system? do most folks piece together their suspensions and end up there anyway or is there a reason NOT to go with a system like the one you mentioned? i'll have to get with the MM to see what would have to change because of a 351 instead of the 302 (the strut tower brace is mainly what i'm concerned with). the price tag is a bit breathtaking, but i guess if you start adding up the individual prices on the pieces it probably doesn't end up so bad.

looks like i've got more research to do to find out what all of those different pieces do (panhard bar, k-member, etc) and see if they are something i would end up adding anyway.

there is no difference between piecing your kit togethor or buying a boxonly reason not to go with MM is if you want to go with Griggs, either way neither are easy on your wallet

like mentioned above, MM and Griggs = Great stuff and $$$. Just make sure you have a plan and a goal in mind. If you daily drive the car and maybe go to a couple autocross events/year, you might not need the whole MM box set....wouldn't be worth all the money you spend. On the other hand, it could snowball and you find out that road racing is where it's at, then you could start investing more $ into the suspension. Ultimately it depends on what you want to do with the car. My last foxbody was my daily driver and I had very stiff road springs in it and it was a pain in the *** literally!

that's where i'll have to sit down and really look at what my goals are for the car. i guess i use the term daily driver a little too loosely. it won't be driven every day, i have a truck that i use for that. it will be driven sometimes, and if i build it good enough i'll probably have to fight my wife to get the keys :D it won't be a garage queen and i do want it to handle nicely but not make me piss blood after taking it for a drive. i'll check out griggs and MM. i'll have to check my PMs but there was another suggestion of Team Z (i believe) or Z racing?? i'll check with them as well.

as far as autocrossing and road racing, the local SCCA chapter used to hit a local road course once or twice a year (don't know if they still do). i used to do the SOLO II stuff until some of the other members turned me off to the sport. i've been wanting to get back into it and see if any of the membership has changed.

thanx a ton for the suggestions!

If thats the case, then you're looking at spending ALOT more than just the road and track box

sent an email to MM yesterday, we'll see what they tell me. i'll try to send one to Griggs today along with the Team Z.

Shaolin, i went through about 1/2 of the pages of your build (i'll go through the rest today)......WOW.....nice set up and excellent build. you really did throw the entire MM catalog on your car!

I wish i did, i still need another 1500 in parts from MM to complete my suspension, then i'll truly have the whole ****in catalog
