My suspension is all stock except the KYB Shocks/Struts. i got some little mods on the car right now and i almost got enough money saved up for the trick flow HCI combo. but a few people have told me i should do some suspension upgrades before i put out over 300hp. i dont know much about suspension so if u guys could help me out on what i should do or if i could get away safely with the trick flow kit before i do some suspension mods. thanx

I wouldn't worry about springs/shocks unless you want to corner more than you want to accelerate. Kyb's are not too good, so your gonna be spending a lot of cash on springs and shocks.

what you DO need to deal with is good rear aftermarket control arms. this will make ALL the difference in the world for your launches. Get a good set with polyeurothane at one end and a spherical bushing at the other end. maximum motorsports arms are really, really good, and the pro3i's are a near knock off, but cheaper. Combine them with the 93 cobra uppers, or the frpp uppers, and you'll be good to go. also, lose the front swaybar for the drag strip, and get some drag radials. All of this should net you upwards of a second or more. Doing the h/c/i thing will get you nowhere if you don't have the rear suspension and tires to hook up.

it is highly recommended you build the suspension first. if you put out so much HP and torque, it will be meaningless if your car cannot control and plant it. go with some rear control arms (upper and lower), lakewood shocks and struts (70/30's and 50/50's), maybe a spring kit, subframe connectors, and an adjustable pinion snubber.

so u guys think getting it lowered isnt really necessary? are the stock brakes good enough to handle that much power?

I don't really think it is pivotal, but... Most people lower their cars mainly for the look. Hands down though, most cars look better slightly lowered. Suspension (IMO) is the most overlooked/under modded part of the car, with the exception of driving skills when it comes to track performance.

As far as your brakes, it all depends on what you are going to be doing. Loads of people have that kind of horsepower on stock brakes.

With a good suspension you will get all the power to the ground and will beat guys that make more power but don't have the suspension. Don't use a lowering kit to lower the car, it will not be good for racing/hook. Ride height is determined by tire diameter, instant center and Anti squat ratios which can be figured out by the mouting points of the rear suspension.

This is what I did:

I lowered the car 1/14" with the Eibach pro-kit. My rear sway bar snapped, so I replaced both with the Eibach pro-kit. I also threw some KYB shocks/struts on there, and now it handles pretty good. My next suspension mod, control arms, and SUBFRAME connectors! I can't believe they haven't been mentioned already.

so i should be able to have good enough suspension with my kyb's, subframe connectors, and rear upper & lower control arms... at least good enough to handle the trick flow kit?

what kind of KYB's? are they the stock replacements? if so i would change them to something better. you can probably get by with just changing out the rear end setup for your H/C/I but the front end would help too for your initial launch.
