svo motor questions

hey guys, i've got my brothers svo motor in my garage now and is going for a rebuild. i got a few questions. he wants decent power from this car, its mostly a street car and sometimes sees track time. i was figuring since its a 2.3t that 300-325 wheel hp would be a good round number. question 1- what can the stock block and crank handle. 2- stroker? whats good, is it worth it? 3, he wants a high revving motor 8000 range...what kind of valve springs and followers are you guys using. i n ever tried working on a 2.3, so this is all new to me. i've only built 5.0's. thanks for your help.

I remember the stock rods being good to 400 hp and the block around the same. Unless you throw a few grand at it you won't need to upgrade the block for a mostly street car.

Ive heard alot of bad things about highreving stroker motors, Stroker motors in general from what Ive been reading dont like to be over reved.

go to www.turbotbird.com and go under vendors. look for racer walsh and esslinger
these two companies are 2.3l turbo nuts.
they helped me out alot when i rebuilt my 2.3l turbo for my old turbo coupe.

correct stroker motors are built for bottom end torque, not for high reving. and in a 2.3l 8000 rpm's seems a bit much for street. rather have your power lower in the rpm band.

Block has been good to 1000+, Rods over 430rwhp, Pistons over 500rwhp, Crank 800+.

In other words, leave it alone.

You can also swing the stock parts to a little over 7 grand without worry. There is really no reason to spin these motors that high though. You'll need a killer flowing head, big cam, as well as some different springs and such to make power that high.
