Swap headers not working

Im having problems with my MAC longtube 315W swap headers not fiting in my car. The headeron the drivers side hits aginst the steering knuckle shaft and wont let the motor drop onto the mount bracket. Im having about an inch or so before the motor will sit on the mount bracket. Has anyone had this problem before? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks

my shortie headers touched that knuckle only slightly. i just grinded a little material off. in your case have you tried installing the header after you have the engine down on its mount?

drop the motor in then put the header on

how old are the motor mounts? if they are somewhat old, new ones may help by raising the motor up some. you can also put some washers in between the mount and the k-member as well.

this happened to someone on here before I remember that he stacked some washers and maby used some new mounts and had to do a little banging with a hammer to make a small dent in one of the header tubes.

Depending on how things are sitting right now, it may be easier to break the steering linkage loose, rather than raising the block back out. You are the only one that can answer that though.

If they are anything like my swap headers, i had to disconnect the steering rag joint because it slides between two header tubes. This may not be the case with yours, but if i can fit my 460 swap headers in while the motor is in car, im sure you can put the 351 swap headers in while yours is down in the car too.

Does the shaft go through the headers or are the headers between the shaft and the engine?
