Right now my 289 engine in my 66 coupe makes 220rwhp 240rwtq, Im going to swap the heads from stock to some trickflow tw heads, with trickflow 1.6rr and a compcams XE274H. Im also putting a 3200 stall converter on, im just wondering how much hp the heads, roller rockers and the cam are going to give me about? Please let me know what you think.

You should be in the area of 1.0 to 1.2 fwhp per cubic inch. Is it a bored 289? That sould make it a 296 or something. With those heads and a healthy cam like that the small displacement is going to really hold you back. Put that same combo on a 351W and you be at or just over 400fwhp

Yeah its bored .60 over and I have weiand stealth intake, edelbrock 600cfm carb, march pulleys, tri-y's, dual flowmaster 2.25in exaust, 8" rear end with mini spool and 3.55 gears, holley performance electric fuel pump, electric fan. im hoping for about 350 to 360fwhp then im going to add a 100 shot of nitrous for when I take it to the track. then that should give me some good power.

wierd combo....

way too much stall, exhaust too small, too much cam, and a 100 shot wont last long on that engine. Especially being bored as much as it is.

How do you figure I have to big of a cam and to much stall, and how do I have to small of an exaust?

After the upgrades my new combo will be

289 bored .60 over
trickflow TW heads
trickflow roller rockers
compcams XE274H
edelbrock Victor jr. intake
edelbrock 600cfm carb (until I get my speed demon)
tri-y headers
dual flowmaster exaust with H-pipe
march pulleys
electric fan
TCI Street fighter torque converter
msd digital 6 plus ignition box
msd pro billet distributor

Im probly going to forget the nitrous for now so Im hoping for like 350 or 360fwhp and how much torque do you think this thing will put out?

you have too much intake too man!

If your goal is simply 350-360 at the flywheel....

TW heads, an xe266H cam, speed demon 650, 1 5/8 comp headers, 2.5" exhaust, RPM intake (notched) and port matched. You only need about a 2500 rpm stall converter. Your combo is a little more radical and your parts really dont match up well. The combo I stated above made 396hp on a 306...naturally aspirated. Only difference was...it was a roller block.

I wouldn't sweat the 100 shot, the motor will take more than that, it is the rear end I'd worry about. A vic jr is a little much. The rpm intake out of the box would do much better with the 274. If the converter is an off the shelf converter, I doubt it will go 3200. Those stall #s are optimistic on a small v8. I'd be suprised if it went 2700. All but the intake, I say go for it. It aughta haul!

Ok so what kind of power am I looking at with this combo?

289 .60 over
trickflow tw heads
trickflow 1.6 roller Rockers
XE274H cam
edelbrock 600cfm carb
1 5/8" ford tri-y's
dual 2.25" flowmaster exaust with H-pipe
tci street fighter torque converter or I might get a custom one
edelbrock performer RPM Airgap intake (notched and port matched) (also any machine shop should be able to do this right?)
march pulleys
electric fan
msd digital 6 plus ignition box

If i can get this into the 400 range it would be more than great.
let me know what you think.

to really take advantage of your combo...jump up to a 650 speed demon, 2.5" exhaust, and very mildy port the heads...you should be making damn close to 400fwhp

The tri-Ys are great for building torque when you have little displacement, they are not know for good numbers at high RPMs compared to 1 5/8 equal length designs.

600cfm is too small for such a big cam/head/intake combo. Try a 725 Holley or 650 Demon. I don't want to start a religious war but I'm not a fan of edelbrock (carter) carbs for high performance applications.

The stall is abit high for a dual plane manifold but I think about right for the Victor. I see you are considering the air-gap, I'd go with a ~2800-3000 stall if you stay with the 274 cam. If you go with the 266 cam then get a 2800.

The 2.25 exhaust is pretty small for serious power but will help build torque. it is a trade-off only you can decide. I put a 2.5 inch exhuast into mine when common wisdom says I should use a 3" since I want booku bottom end.

I like all of ALLCARs suggestions except porting the heads. Those are already big heads for a small displacement motor IMHO.

Getting a true 400fwhp out of a 289 is going to cost you streetability. If you are heart set on that number seriously consider a stroker.

PS. Did you really punch that 289 out to 60? You may have cooling problems if you get the power numbers you are talking about. The SBF is not very happy when over bored that much. I think it may be time for you to look into a 351W block. Stroke it out to 427 and with the mods you already have you're at 500fwhp and very streetable.
