Well, i've given up on finding rust free doors of the right year for my car...so i'm going to use the doors i have which are '87 doors. The problem is the dew wipe on the newer cars flows into the quarter glass, and will look really stupid with the older quarter glass, so i'm going to swap those in while i'm at it. This isn't really my first choice, but i've given up on ever finding rust free '85 doors around here that won't cost me a small fortune.

Anyways has anyone done this swap and are there any little details i should know about? I know the interior trim around the window is different and needs to be swapped to go along with it, also the top trim piece that meets up with the quarter glass is different...i'll take care of those. Specifically just swapping the glass, what all is involved?

Well the 4 eyed stangs have the glass that sits on the inside of the car. They are attached from the inside. The "areo" stangs have the glass on the outside of the car so they interior quater panels are different. If you get the newer quarter glass you will need the newer interior panels as well.

you don't have to have the newer inner quarter plastic to install them. You can retain the factory inner panels if you can find something descent to trim the gap with. I did this in my 84. Also you should know that the newer quarter glass has some mounting studs that you older car didn't, so in order to mount the glass correstly there needs to be some metel welded in around the glass for mounting

i personally wouldent do it, 87+ windows would take some of he coolness from your car and IMO, leave it 100% Four Eye!! did you try swapping dew wipes instead? the basic door sheet metal should be the same, right?

Man if i could find doors i then i wouldn't bother but around here that's like searching for a unicorn. When you find clean '85-86 doors, or even '79-86 doors, it's likely that the car they're on is too clean to just pull the doors off of, or they want $500 for the them and that's retarded.

I've also looked into changing to the older dew wipes, but that would conflict with the side view mirrors as well because they're also different. I don't know if you can change the wipes and mirrors to the older style or not.

there's only one way to find out..it's your car and i shouldent influence your decision, but honestly your car is one of my favorites, i plan on building a 4I notch with the 82GT front end just like yours..

Be different, put some SVO quarters on there....=D

Oh man, if only they made them in coupe style....i've always wanted to do that. I've even thought about getting another set of sails and fiberglassing them in to try and make my own set. Again, this is something i'm probably going to do if i can just figure out this door crap and not have to swap my quarter glass.

Is there a way to drill out and remove the 87+ dew wipes? I don't see why you wouldn't be able to modify those doors to accept the older dew wipes.......Your car is so distinctively 4 eye, it'll confuse the look of the car with those windows, I know it's not what you want to hear, but you won't be happy.

You can drill out the rivets holding the 87-93 trim on and weld up the holes that are left. The older style trim should fit on the doors as they are basically the same. If it were me, I'd at least try to fit the older style trim to the newer doors, and if that works, then drill & fill the holes.

Good luck!

go to foureyedpride.com, I'm sure you'll get your answer there.

Weeeeeeell.....those guys don't much care for me. Not that i've ever had any arguments or fights or anything, but the fact that i've got an SSP with a Pacecar nose on it...they pretty much have labeled me a butcher. I usually get the cold shoulder over there :(
