Swapping to an aluminum driveshaft. Is it worth it?

Friend of mine has an aluminum driveshaft he pulled off a 95 GT, among other part. I looked it over and it is in good shape. U-joints are stiff and intact. He says I can have it. I just haven't bitten yet cause I don't know of any real benefits of having one over the stock. Ideas?

lighter... no vibrations if it's in good shape...

less rotational mass is better.

Its not anything magic, but it can't hurt. It's said that it helps cure drivetrain vibrations.

I put a motorsport aluminum driveshaft in my 1990. I can tell it's lighter the engine spins a little quicker. But I now HAVE a vibration at 5,000 rpms. Don't know if I got a bad one or not? Vibrations suck though.

It's free, so take it. I added one to my 96 Cobra and noticed nothing. It did weight a lot less, but nothing changed with HP or performance.

If it is free then I would do it in a heartbeat or like others have suggested, make some money. I did it on a 90 GT and didn't notice any change what so ever.

It's just one of those things that's better than stock, so why not? If you only had X amount of money for mods, i wouldn't recommend spending it on an aluminum drive shaft, but if you've got a car that has it all and you're looking for those extra things to top it off, this is one of those things. At any rate it's lighter, stronger, absorbs vibration and harmonics better and has less parasitic drag than the stocker so it has its benefits but they're not going to be noticeable....you'll just have that warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing that you've got that drive shaft issue covered.

it looks cool.

but seriously hold your crappy rusted stock one and the aluminum together and you'll see the difference in diameter and weight. YES - size does matter.

DO IT. My 89 felt like it was at 45 when I took it to 150 that one time down in Mexico when no one was around.

From NJ to Mexico? That must have been awesome.

I felt the aluminum driveshaft made a pretty good improvement over the stocker. My old d/s might have been in terrible shape. I def. felt a difference.

I cant understand the price of them now? They used to go for 150 bucks.

Yea well, it may or may not have been in PA on 180 when there was no one around but I can't remember exactly...........lol

Thanks for the replies. I'll def pick it up next time I stop by. Or as soon as I fix this other no start bs i'm dealing with. 95 DS will fit a 92, right?
