just bought an 89 gt first mustang ever owned and the sway bar links are shot how hard of a process is it to replace them cause I don't want to have to pay labour at a garage. Also are sway bar and stabilizer bar the same thing?
The end links were easy for me. I would probably put new anti-sway bar bushings in too. I used poly for end links and bushings.
The end links should just academically unbolt and bolt back in. If doing the anti-sway bar bushings, you have to drop the bar (it is fairly heavy), but be prepared for the plastic retainers around the nuts to not hold the nut (they did not for me). I had to break away some of the plastic so I could get a wrench on the nuts and hold them that way, while undoing the bolts.
It is very simple (I just made it sound like more of a pain - I just wanted to post what might be a little issue so you expect it if it happens).
Be careful not to over tighten the new links while you have the car jacked up. The first set I changed years ago, I did this to and it stretched the link out, bent it over, and my front end set about 2 inches higher than it did. Set it on the ground to make the final torque adjustments.
