Well, I’m finally ready to start putting my front end back together after stripping it down completely a while ago. When I removed the front sway bar, there was a plastic piece on top of the mounting location to the frame. It is where the bushing/bracket mounts. In the process of removing them, the old brittle plastic broke apart. I don’t really see any purpose for these parts, other than a cheesy locking device (the plastic piece snaps to the mounting location and has pockets that fit around the nuts). Is it something that is installed at the factory so someone will know that the sway bar was ever removed (like a tamper proof seal)? Do I really need to replace these? If these are cheesy locking devices, could I just use Loctite instead? My Stang is a 1986 5.0 LX.

Those are simply an extra hand so to speak. They act as a keeper/helper to retain the nut for the bracket bolts so you don't have to lay under the car and tighten the bolts and try to reach up and hold the nuts captive as you tighten everything down. Using a regular nut is just fine except you'll need an extra hand to help now.
