sweet smell when heater on

so when my heater is on i have notced that there is a sweet smell comming from the vents. the heater still works, but it takes a long time to heat up so it will blow warm air.
i'm thinking heater core is going out. does this sound right to you?

Unless it's draining like it's supposed to. The drain outlet is in the engine bay, up against the firewall, toward the center of the car. If it's leaking you should be able to see droplets coming from the rubber nipple there.
