switching noses

Well if he already has the cobra grille insert installed and his current cover is in nice shape.. what's so stupid about it?
Because its not a real GT bumper, it looks fake. That's not a cobra grill insert, that's just an lx bumper from the trim up. My point is why spend all that money on something that doesn't even look real, when you can buy a real GT bumper on craigslist for dirt cheap.

Not usually a fan myself but gave it a shot.

IMO it still would not look 'right', but it would look 'better' if it had the Cobra fender extension, vs the GT.
The GT extension with the 'scoop' adds depth to the front of the car that really sets it off from the rest of the car.
If it didn't have the added dimension of the 'scoop' (Cobra extension), that would be one less thing to make the mismatch obvious.

I wonder what it would look like with a Cobra rear bumper, GT front bumper, Cobra front fender extensions, but NO side skirting... ???

I think it depends on the car personally. I quite like the look of @oatburner99's car. Even if he is in the process of swapping it back to the LX bumper. I might consider looking around for a GT front clip for mine? They look right at home on Coupe's as far as I'm concerned?

....because really, how does a little added chin spoiler action make the car look any more out of place than a couple of other very famous Mustangs of the past that sported a similar look?

All of these cars have one thing in common...and that's over pronounced front clips. IMO....if Ford did the Fox this way as an option from the factory, most would accept it, dare I say love it.....but because it's a little "out of the box" (even though it really isn't) it gets the thumbs down....

I think the Coupe has to have some sort of spoiler or something to balance out the look. It just looks large in front and tiny in the rear with the GT nose. The Hatchbacks flow back smoothly and always have a spoiler to build up the rear end.

Meh, for $50 more I'd buy the entire bolt on reproduction assembly, complete with Cobra grill insert. I never liked the "add on" type kits. You've got to fuss with body work, then later worry about damaging said body work in the event you pound a pot hole, or bump something...or out right ripping it off in the even you catch the edge of a curb, or something?

That's gorgeous!
I don't even notice the missing side panels!
Great job!
What size are the rims and tires in front?
I want SCs for mine, and 8" is what I want to run up front, but I can't stand the look of them. The 9" look great, but won't work for the tire I want to run. Looks like you have 9" rims... ???
The 8" look like front wheel drive rims.

Fake? The car is an LX. Not a GT. Even if you have an OEM GT bumper cover or not. And have you seen one of these in person? Have you seen a Saleen in person? These valances install the same exact way.

thanks 84ttop!

thanks! the fronts are 17x9's with 245/45's. they are definitely borderline too big. with my 87 fenders, they rub the fender extensions when turning and i had to use rack limiters. I have a set of 91-93 fenders i'm about to put on it in hopes of curing the rubbing issue.

Everything you just posted is why I swapped the pace car nose onto my car. That black coupe is sick.
