Hello everyone, new here so this will be my 1st.

I have a 00 gt. According to the door code it has the t-45 trans in it. I have been having an issue with a noise, much similiar to what a spun crank bearing in a motor sounds like. Only the noise is transmission related.. it is only audiable when the car is under load.. mostly when slowing down in lower gears... 1st / 2nd etc. If I give it slight throttle pressure it goes away. If the car is in neutral it's gone and if the clutch is pressed it's gone.. I had a friend tell me he thinks it's the output shaft bearing. Anyone else have any insight on this? I was going to attempt rebuilding it myself. but I want to make sure I'm fixing the right problems. thanks.

if yu are hard on it like i am, it could be your input shaft bearing in the tranny. the way to fix it is drop the tranny, take the bell housing off and there it is. have fun if thats your problem. never fails its always mine

I will have to drive it again to be honest. I've just basically been driving it 5-10 miles or so on weekends lately.

I am hard on it to an extent I guess. the car has always had a slight noise since I bought it in the begining of summer. I never thought much of it just attributed it to being an older car. however now the noise has gotten way more noticable and I figure I will fix it before I totally trash the transmission.
I am capable of repairing just about anything. I have just never done the internals of a transmission. plus I don't have the loot to have a shop do it.

I have always lived by the fact that I own it, I break it, I fix it. so as long as I'm spending the money who cares right.

The reason I ask is because in 4th gear, no load travels down the cluster shaft. It's freewheeling as the input and output shafts are directly tied together. So if you hear no noise in 4th but do in every other gear, you may have a cluster shaft bearing problem.

How's the fluid level?

I drove it again and it makes the noise in all gears.. you can even hear it when accelerating.

I had just changed the fluid probably less than a hundred miles ago. to bad the trans was already making noise. I replaced it with I believe mobil synthetic and some lucas.

I'm just hoping someone can lead me in the right direction before I drop the transmission. Since I don't have the experience I don't know if I'm going to be able the gut it and see/tell what the problem is without some insight going in. plus I'd like to have the parts in advance rather than a car sitting around unusuable. while ording parts.

you should have put nothing thicker than mercon auto trans fluid, anything thicker wil destroy your synchronizers. not saying thats your problem but i made the mistake and it demolished my borg warner t45, now im sporting a nice $100, 24,000 mile tremco t45 out of a 2000 gt. sorry dont mean to brag, but i am.

I think it is a tremec t-45. but anyways it was the right fluid I put in, the lucas is just an oil stabilizer. only 1/2 quart or less was added with the trans fluid. I've used the same stuff directly in the gas tank of my vr6 jetta. lol

I know what your saying about thickness though. I come from an old school train of thought. I used to use straight gear oil way back when. but then again I always owned older cars.
