I've been told if I use the right output yoke I might not have to have my driveshaft shortened (certainly desirable). Does anyone know if an NPD swap output yoke for a 66, when used with a late bell and input shaft, will accomplish that? If not, can I get one that does (and from whom)? Thanks!

edited... probably m akes more sense now.

How does the conversion yoke work? You don't want the yoke to stick out much more than 1" from the trans.

I got lucky with my swap in my 68 and didn't need to shorten my driveshaft. Based on what I have read, this is total luck of the draw as some do and some don't. My guess is the variance in tolerances for things like engine mounts etc can swing to a high enough degree to make it possible or not. I don't think it's a matter of which yoke you get since they all must be the corect spec. I'm sure you will get a lot of responses on this thread since this is a popular swap.

whoops posted on wrong forum...

by any chance does a c4 yoke fit into a t5 (might as well make sure it doesn't before i go to npd)...
I used a conversion yoke from Darkhorseracing.com fpr my 66 T5 conversion with a stock 4 speed V8 driveshaft. It was $70, IIRC, and is about 3/4" shorter than the stock T10 yoke I had. Using it, I did NOT have to shorten my driveshaft as the shorter yoke allowed me enough room. I still have the inch play required and don't bottom out inside the transmission like the longer yoke would have done. I don't know if the C4 driveshaft is the same length, however. I think yours may be shorter, even. 50" vs 51"???

When I switched from a C4 to a T5 in my 67 I had a new drive shaft made because my driveshaft was a 2 piece. You don't want a 2 piece drive shaft. Check to find out if your is a 1 or 2 piece before you worry if you can buy a new yolk for it or not.
