You can change the weight of a 50 oz flywheel to a 28 oz?

Easily, if you have the balancing equipment. A shop charges something like $75 to do it, I think.

I just changed my '84 over to a 10.5" clutch and have no use for the original 10" flywheel.

...And the *WEIGHT* of that stock II flywheel. That thing weighs something like 60 pounds by itself. If I recall correctly, I weighed the flywheel and clutch assembly and the total was 72 pounds. If you ever want to get back at someone, just drop a II flywheel on his foot...

Out of curiosity I weighed my V8 flywheel and it came in at 40 pounds. Still heavy, but not 60 lbs. I did a little searching and I think the earlier 302 cast-iron flywheels were around 34 lbs. I bet Ford had to make the Mustang II flywheel heavier to get the same rotational inertia with a smaller diameter.

I think I still have mine in storage someplace, I'll see if I can dig it out and check the weight. It makes sense that a smaller dia. wheel needs more weight, too. On the same token, if you made a custom alum. flywheel that small, the rotational mass would be extremely low.
