T-5 replace a TR-3650?

I have a 01 Gt w/ the kenne bell 9# kit. I was thinking of rebuilding it buy a shop told me they had a t5 tranny he could put in there. Will a t5 be able to hold the power. I dont race it, just boost it every once in a while, no hard lauches and no power shifting. Would i be fine with the t5 or would a rebuild be more reasonable? have about 370rwhp and 380rwtq. thanks in advance

im not sure? he said it was out of an 02GT...but im pretty sure those have a 3650 as well. doesnt really matter to me because im going to sell the car, but just watned to make sure that if it was a t5...if that would hold the power. thanks

if it was from an '02, it should be a 3650. a t5 might hold the power, but not as much as the 3650

hm, i guess i hit a nerve there. i say the T-45 is the worst tranny based on the opinion of two local speed shops, a ford tech i know who's been at ford for 15+ years, my own personal experience w/ my T-45, and the experience of others with the same tranny.

yeah, you may be right, but not everyone has the same experiences, you know? Heck, if we all agreed on the same thing, this wouldn't be the USA :)

i wasnt aware that anyone made a t5 bellhousing for a 4.6l?????? to the best on my knowledge no one has. its pointless. the t45 or a 3650 is stronger then a t5, why would you degrade your car????

tko500 is a different story, as for some reason, in michigan, people think a tko is a t5.

wasnt the last year for t45's 2001 anyways? go to a different trans shop.

Standard T-5 is rated at 300 ft-lbs but there are versions that can take 310-330fts

T-45 holds 330 ft-lbs

t-3650 can hold 360 ft-lbs.

3650 is a strong trans, but shifts like total junk while the t-5 is kinda weak but shifts great. The t-45 falls in the middle of the two and is prone to locking in reverse.

T-5 is a peice of cake to rebuild with the t-45 and t-3650 are about the same, both also weigh more than the t-5. About 125 pounds vs 75 pounds. There are kits though that can make a t-5 hold 600 ft-lbs of torque.

I wish Tremec could make the 3650 shift like a t-5.

Oh by the way there was a t-5 in '02...V6 models used them and still do. I think the V6 t-5 is rated at 300 ft-lbs.
