Okay guys I am gatheirng my thoughts for my t-5 conversion. I am using the 4speed bellhousing, adapter plate version. Is there any upgrades to the Z bar that I can do or need to do. The car is new to me and I am not familiar with the Zbar status. It seems to work fine at this point... I plan to upgrade the clutch and flywheel when I put my 347 in the car. When I say upgrade I mean, better clutch and flywheel for the 4spd bellhousing... Talk to me guys!!! I have looked at several articles and due to the fact I have tri y headers, I am staying away from the clutch cable conversion....

Hmmmm, i was going to suggest the cable clutch at moderndriveline.com, but I see that's not for you. There's a guy on this site that did a hydraulic clutch conversion to his 67. I lost the link to it though, maybe he can give you some insight. I remember he got everything from a fiero or something for ridiculously cheap. Worked out great too.

About the z-bar upgrades, I cant think of anything other than keep looking around at the aftermarket stuff.

347, I have the same T-5 set up in my race rod and no problem with the z-bar.

I would suggest that you "stiffen" the z-bar while it is out of the car. You can weld in a couple of gussets as it will strart to bend as you upgrade the clutch.

The Hi-Po's came with an upgraded z-bar for this reason.

Good Luck,

uhm, i had to replace my z-bar. it was pretty damn tweaked. looking back, i should have used the late-model bellhousing and linkage, but i wasn't educated then. i have a strong clutch and my upper clutch rod is wearing away the pedal and i snapped the lower rod. ultrastang sent me a really neat set of clutch rods made from tie-rod ends, but they didn't work in my situation.

of course, i think there is much more wrong with my clutch, so this shouldn't happen to everyone.

when done properly, you won't have any problems with the cable/tri-y setup. I wish I had some pics of mine, but I don't.
