t-5 swap

I have a Borg Warner T-5 in my 78 King Cobra. With a few mods, it fits well.

I used the stock bell housing, flywheel and a new clutch. You do have to modify the crossmember to accept the longet tail shaft of the T-5 but no big deal.

To use the stock bellhousing you should use the 94-95 T-5 with the longer input shaft, so it does reach into the crank.

With this unit the shifter does fit into the interrior better but complicates the drive shaft and cross member fit.

Someone had made a nice cross member but I haven't seen any postings for a long time.

If you don't use a 94-95 t5 can you get a longer tail shaft?

It's my understanding that if you use the T-5 bell and trans, the C-4 automatic drive shaft drops in and maybe the cross member, BUT you loose the bellhousing/driveshaft tunnel clearing complicating the header install.

I don't know of a longer tail shaft.

My fault meant to say Input shaft

I have a T5 with a T5 bellhousing. Funny thing, when I bought the car it had the RAD4 with a T5 bellhousing. I had to flatten 2 of my Hooker Super Comp tubes to give the clutch fork room to move, and the cable rubbed one of the tubes. I broke 3 cables within 1.5 years. The shifter moved forward a little. The previous owner cut the shifter hole in the console a little bit longer when he put the T5 bellhousing in. The guy that did the T5 swap for me made a crossmember out of some angle iron, and the driveshaft had to be shortened an inch. When I put my 351 in, I will have some custom headers made which will take care of the clutch cable problem. I'll also probably have the fabrication shop make me a stronger crossmember. Also, the firewall was dented a little to make it easier to get to the top bellhousing-to-engine bolts, though I don't know if that had anything to do with the bellhousing, the previous owner probably just did that to make access easier.

Guy's
Don't take this the wrong way, because I know everyone's trying
to help, but I've had my eye on this as a project for a while, and over
the last two years I think I've seen almost every year of T5 recomended
as the best. up until now I've been looking for a 90-93...

Has anyone acually compiled a list of the different year/model and
the pro & cons of each ?
