Im about to replace my tailshaft seal before i put my driveshaft in (trying to beat hindsight for once) and i was told that the best one to use is a ford replacement seal.. no biggie. But its been in there since the car was stock in 1991. How do you get that thing out of there, and should i put a thin film of sealant around the outside of the seal before i install it ???

This is on a T-5 by the way

They are pressed in and you must pry them out. IF it isn't leaking I wouldn't replace it. They can be a PITA.

Don't worry about the sealant. They are pressed in so tight!! I would just use grease for ease of install.

The rubber on the seal looks a little iffy though, thats why i was kinda worried.. i might just stick the driveshaft in there and pray for the best.

if you have to end up taking it off just pry it out with a screwdriver, it shouldnt fight you too much when installing one, get a tube that fits the seal to hammer it in with equal force all around the seal

Ill keep that in mind man, i appreciate it!
