T-5 to C-4 when turbo is done?

Guys, my single turbo setup is well on its way to completion and with that is going to come plenty of power to destroy my T-5. My buddy (rio95) with the same diy turbo setup blew his already and his clutch (King cobra) which is the same as I have is already having issues with holding. With this in mind, next spring I know my clutch will be gone and I'm not gonna throw a strong clutch on a t-5 since it will kill it, therefore I need a tranny too.

Well, we are both tossing around the idea of getting C-4s due to the fact that they are cheaper, wouldnt have to worry bout clutches, and the main reason is that there really don't seem to be that many great manual options. All the people we know with Tremecs complain about them not always going into gear great and other small issues, which for what they cost should never be happening. As for a g-force, I dont think it would be strong enough for our long term plans so the only other option is a t-56 which is very expensive. So for these reasons we are both comtemplating autos, which we both enjoys driving manuals alot and would miss it but this is why we are thinking autos.

Just the other day a buddy of mine said his dad has a built c-4 sitting around that he would sell for $550 that has 1,000 miles on it and no track time. That sounds quite tempting. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.:nice:

I wouldnt. You drive the car for fun on the street? A friend of mine has one, and damn its so annoying to ride in his car, expecially with the high torque converter.

My tip to you, find someone who has one in their car (doesnt matter what kind of car) and be sure to go for a ride, if you can deal with crappy cruising rpms (highway), notchyness, and convertor then go for it.

Otherwise go with a tko600 or gforce. I havent heard anyone having issues with the gforce trannies yet, ill probably go that route or the t56 route. The t56 really is the ultimate, but like you said they arent cheap. Best bet is to score one from an ls1 fbody or 03 cobra.

Just depends on what you want. The automatic is going to be faster with the turbo. I love my C4 but I rarely drive on the street. My converter acts like a stock converter on the street but stalls well over 4K. And I still get to shift since I have a manual valvebody...even if I just have to shift twice.

gforce...

something about driving a sports car with an automatic transmission isn't good...just my opinion...shifting without a clutch takes all of the fun out of it too. plus a stick with a short shifter just looks sexy.

all my opinion. take it for what it's worth

Yeah, I really do agree with you. If I stay with a manual i think I will be going the g-force route for strength and price.

I have a tremec tko in my car and it shifts fine. Never a problem getting it into gear and never a problem at 6,800 rpm either :)

I'm looking to swap it for a built up AOD. I wanted a C4 but I go on the highway too much with my car and a C4 with 4.30 gears will be way too much.

I swear if I were to let someone make a pass in my car with the manual C4 they would fall in love...the torque curve is unreal, the transbrake is a blast and shifting without your foot is an acquired taste..lol.

Grn92lx - So now your at 6,800rpm...LOL...LOL.

A few months ago you were at 6,400 rpm, then a few days ago it was 6,700 rpm...now...it is 6,800 rpm.

You also had "whining" problems with your TKO.

Anyways, back to topic...

Get the G-force, it is stronger than the t56 and weighs virtually the same as a regular t5.

If you can drive the c4 isn't going to be much faster, if at all...and you will miss the fun factor. People will think, "no skill" is needed.

650-700rwtq and up I'd say Auto as you will get tired of smoking clutches and tearing trans up

Track car def Auto

Love banging gears..well thats obvious

I'm sure I'll end up with a Auto one day

G-Force T5 is good for 600hp maybe 650hp...don't get my wrong I love T5s I almost went back to one. But with the C4 I don't have to worry about clutches or the shock of launching off the clutch at 5K. With the C4 I can focus on other things.

I would go through Walt at ProMotion Transmissions for the T5 build. Do you plan on driving on the street? What kind of RPMs? If you plan on anything more than 6400rpms you will want to upgrade to the dog-ring setup, but at that point it will not be very fun on the street b/c it will whine and not down shift very well.

It will be driven on the street alot. For now not over 6,000 rpms. As for power, should be making around 500 rwhp and in year or so when I upgrade my block my goal is around 650 rwhp. Currently I am leaning towards the g-force. Would do you think the promotion build would cost?
