I just purchased a 1988 T-5 trans from a ford swap meet. The trans was from a 1988 5.0 mustand. It has about a hundred thousand miles on it and am thinking about rebuilding it before i do the swap from my aod to this five speed. i am in teh process as well of putting in a 347 stroker that will be producing about 400 rwh. I am looking for a good rebuild kit. I heard many good things about the tko trans's and i saw a tko trans rebuild kit and a tko 2 trans rebuild kit. wondering if these are any good and if there are any major differences. if there are any other ones you guys recommend plz list. Also I am going to try to rebuild it myself but never have done anything with a trans except installing a shift kit. Is it really hard to rebuild one and are there any tips and trick to this. thank you.

The service manual for the T-5 can be found at this website

You cannot use the TKO rebuild kits as it's a totally different transmission.

BUT, there are plenty of cheap T-5 rebuild kits available. I'm about to order the 94-peice T-5 rebuild kit from D&D performance. Hanlon Motorsports is also a good place to get rebuild kits for.

It helps to print out that 79-page manual and study it. I've been reading it nonstop and have started a teardown of the T-5 i am rebuilding and it's actually pretty easy. I'm prob gonna order my rebuild kit tomorrow as my first inspection found all the hard parts such as gears and forks to be in good condition. In my case, the tranny was whining so i beleive it to be the bearings anyway
