T-56 upgrade?

The T45 in my '96 Mystic Cobra needs a second gear synchronizer and 1-2 shifting fork. Still driveable but only allows slow deliberate shifts to second. My question: Is there a way to swap to a T-56 or TKO and still have a working speedometer? Are there any manual speedo adapters available? If I have to pull the tranny and repair/replace it I feel like it would only make sense to replace it with a better unit but I want everything to work.

you can swap in either and the speedo will still work. just amke sure to tell whoever you order it from that you have a mechanical speedo. i would highly recomend the T56. i installed mine about 3 weeks ago and i love it!!!

Saleen, how much did the tranny upgrade cost altogether?

no tire spin with a blower and street tires! that sounds like a dog down low. it might actually be good for times though because you have the traction the whole time. it just sound like its lagging if it cant break the tires loose.

i thought the t-56 made our cars real sluggish down low in the rpm.

1st gear is longer so you get less wheel spin and can push it to 45mph or so :nice:

Following ratios are closer, 4th is 1:1 identical.
Then you get 5th OD and 6th at 0.62 OD for the freeway cruising. Lovely!

Maybe you think it's sluggish down low cauz you don't make power there... I never had this feeling, I just went 315 in the rear to avoid wheel spin on 3rd gear at 50mph :D

i dont have the tranny, i just read that people need the 410 gear or higher to make the t-56 feel good. i really wouldnt want to go over 3.73 in the rear which is what i have now. any higher and rpm would be too high while driving.

although going to 45mph in first sounds awsome.

I also think 3.73-3.90 would be perfect, any lower and you have a 5 speed again. LOL

You lose HP with this mod I hear thru drivetrain loss.

I was gonna buy from DD cause they have a kit with driveshaft.

Kit consists of a rebuilt 03-04 Cobra T56 transmission, cross member mount and aluminum driveshaft with the correct slip yoke. All the parts you need for the conversion. These transmissions are rebuilt by the technicians at D&D Performance, a Tremec elite Distributor and Factory Authorized repair center
