I just bought the car 3 weeks ago and installed an mgw shifter. before and after i installed the shifter the tranny would grind when 1.) downshifting into second at around 30 2.) Speed shifts at wot into (no did not miss gears) 3.) just started when putting in first at dead stop, also reverse grinds ever so slightly but i know thats common was thinking of changing tranny fluid to royal purple synchromesh and i'm hoping the synchros aren't goin out. car only has 38k and is 2000 GT any tips or comments appreciated Also it doesn't do this on a regular basis but has done each of the problems a few times i'd say a dozen all together. just twice and the speed shifts and 2 on the first gear but most common has been downshift which does not occur if i'm real gentle seems like happens most of time when i'm banging the gears. want to get if fixed before i really screw something up.

Mine had a few of those tendencies, before I changed the fluid out, put in a new clutch, pilot bearng, throwout bearing, and new clutch fork and pivot ball. I made sure the cable was adjusted nice afterwards. It shifts like lubricated butter now, even with the crappy stock quadrant and cable.

Welcome to the T-45 :nice: Mine does it and it pisses me off but oh well. Im switching to Some Redline or Mobil1 Synthetic to see if it helps a bit

Tremec recommends you DO NOT use Redline. Stick with non-synthetic Dexron or if you want to use synthetic use Mobil1.

I spent a half hour on the phone with Tremec the other day, and that is what they said.

My T-45 still shift smooth. Except reverse.

But i've replaced cable, clutch, pivit ball, fork, TOB, new fluid, and NEVER tried powershifting.

Powershifting is like quickest way to kill your trans if u ask me

I powershift daily and I have 78,000 miles on my original t-45 I might have over 1,000 powershifts on this trans.. I missed a few times too.

but I also have a perfectly adjusted clutch :) In fact I have it adjusted to make for easy powershifts.

99 percent of problems with shift grind on our cars has to do with clutch adjustment. if you have to drop your foot to the floor to disengage the clutch then thats what your problem is. you need to be able to have the car in gear at idle with your foot on the clutch you should be able to lift your foot 2-3 inches off the floor before it start to engage into gear.

the best way to fix this is with a aftermarket quaderent and firewall adjuster. you can also "fix" the stock quadrant.. the procedure for that is on this forum you wil lhave to search for it.

nighthawk, first of all to give u a lil background i had a 00 v6 before i got this, i have yet to powershift in this car, in my v6 i did however and also missed a few gears speed shifting and i know what it is like to miss a gear, believe me that's not the case, and i'm goin to go wit the problem being that my clutch needs adjusted cause that was one of the things i thought was very different between the v6 and gt was the clutch feel. So i'm goin to start cheap wit a new quadrant, cable, ect and a fluid change. Any problems with royal purple synchromesh fluid?

I have some Synthetic Synchromesh in my trans right now, and it's the best I have ever felt it shift before. If I were you, I'd change the fluid in your trans, and do the stock quadrant adjustment. That will make it feel completely different. By stock quadrant adjustment, I don't mean just pulling up on the clutch. I mean, using the method that gets you a notch or two more on the quadrant than just pulling does. I did that to mine before I replaced the clutch, and it made a hell of a difference.

I just did that clutch adjustment by crawling underneath the dash, pushing in the clutch, holding the quadrant up, and pulling back on the pedal.
It made a big difference!
I can shift soooo easily now! :nice:
