T5 advise

ok, I rebuilt a T5, and I was told I could use a gear cluster out of a 96 v6 T5 in a 90 notch back T5 (the one I was rebuilding), so I did this, I rebuilt the transmission with that gearcluster and when I put it back in the trans has a vibration at 80mph.

questions:

-Was I right for using that gear cluster?

-I'm pretty sure I set the right pre-load on the bearings but not entirely sure.

-My clutch feels spongy when I first start driving, but after like 10mins it feels more normal any ideas? (I have a aluminum clutch quadrant).


If anyone is wondering I did a AOD-T5 swap, and I decided to rebuild the trans myself... i'm starting to regret doing this but maybe with some more helpful advise I can get this situation straightened out..

It's basically the same gearset as the 85-89 V8 Mustang. In 1997, i beleive they went to the 90-93 V8 gearset in the V6's which is rated at 300 ft-lbs.

did you use the SN95 input shaft? Or the fox input shaft? I ask because there is a lenght difference. if you used the SN95, you need to use the SN95 bellhousing. If you used the fox input shaft, you need to use the fox bellhousing.

Also, did you replace the tainhousing bushing? Grab the DS and give it a side to side wiggle and see if there is play.

Also, is the driveshaft your original driveshaft? Did you reinstall it with the markings lined up like they were before?
 
yes, I used the fox inputshaft as well as the outputshaft, I know those parts were not interchangeable... what do you mean when you say "DS"...and as for the drive shaft it was the original, I am not sure about the markings I didn't think it mattered... where are the markings located at? I thought their was only one way a driveshaft could go on....and I replaced the black rubber piece at the end of the tail if thats what you mean, but for some reason I am still losing trans fluid....and I completely sealed the trans up with RTV silicone high temp sealant.

Where are you losing trans fluid? At the rear of the transmission?

If it's a new seal, that tells me the driveshaft yoke is moving around side to side.

Grab the driveshaft where it comes out of the rear of the trans and see if there is any side to side or up and down play in it.

The tailhousing bushing behind the seal may be bad and need replacing. When they wobble, it tends to break the seal at the rear and fluid leaks out

what he ment by DS was the drive shaft, Mike wanted you ckeck the play in the yolk.

I had a bad leak also and a seal that looked like this, the rubber end is very shallow and doesn't go far down the drive shaft yoke. This type of seal is cheap and isn't like the oem one and it leaked on me.

I installed this seal from lrs the ford oem style, the rubber seal at the end is longer and covers more area of yoke, my seal hasn't leak ever since, I read this on a search that teh T5 likes the factory style seal.

No driveshaft yoke play I can detect, I dont understand how the trans is leaking, its not coming from the tail end it seems as if its coming from where the crankcase and the tail case meet... but I dont know how this can be because when I sealed it I went inside on every bolt.....
