So i rebuilt my T5 transmission myself using the bad shoe production dvd which was a big help. Take it for a test drive first gear through fourth no problems. Got on the parkway put it in fifth and i hear a loud bang. There goes fifth gear. So i try to put it in fifth again and no gear like its in neutral. So i do some research and find that the fifth gear snap ring popped off. I wasent to happy about pulling the tranny i just installed but i figured it could be worse. So i pull the tranny open it up and just like i read the snap ring popped off. I replace it with a new one. Put it all back together. Go for a ride get on the parkway put it in fifth and grinds. So i try again at a lower rpm and it goes in. So i relize i goota pull the tranny a third time but what is the problem????

Did you reuse the old snap right?

I've found that the act of removing the original snap ring sometimes bends the ring causing it to not seat when reinstalled. I've often recommended a new ring for this particular spot. It's a common failure.

I used to have the fifth gear grind issue wayyyy back. On mine i had to let the rpms slow to shift it into 5th.
If i remember correctly (and i may not), it was the blocking rings.
