What differences if any are there? As long as I am using my Bellhousing and cross member, I thought everything was the same, but the guy i want to buy a beefed up one from says he thinks they are different

The input shaft is shorter on the fox t-5's, so you need to use their bellhousing or install a longer input shaft. Even with the fox bellhousing, it should still bolt up to your crossmember. You will need a driveshaft spacer, or a longer driveshaft tho with the fox bell.

crap, i need a different t5 to make the trip. It sucks that i am going to haev to pull this one and replace the tail shaft bushing and the rear seal just to possibly replace it in a few months.

The tail shaft might be bent they are guessing... heck if i know, but it vibrated like crazy 70 and up.

not to steal the thread in any way, but if the only difference is the input shaft, which i believe it is, then how do you change the input shaft? must be kinda difficult or everyone would'nt be changing bellhousings and buying the driveshaft spacers, theyd just swap input shafts.

No because the fox T5 is shorter physiclly(sp?) so everything moves forward. Putting a shorter input shaft into a longer tranny wont work. The bell housing (fox) must be used when you do the switch. BTW the sn95 t5 input shaft is 5/8 longer.

The tranny I'm usingis off an 89fox. It's a t-5 and everything had to be used off of an 89. To my surprise, my old driveshaft worked fine. The one problem I did see was that the guy whom did the swap had to weld a small plate to the front of the crossmember to bolt the tranny mount to. It is physically shorter than our year but it will work.

95vert i had a 93 t5 in mine when i bought it, it lined up with the crossmember, and the mount fine. I have since put a 95 cobra tranny, 95 bell and clutch fork in though... everything still lined up fine..... sounds weird, was your an original auto car?

What I've heard is just the input shaft is shorter on the fox's, and the bellhousing has to be shorter for the shorter input shaft. I've never heard anything about the physical size of the transmission itself being any different than the SN95's.

To anybody that's rebuilt a t5, what do you need to do to remove the input shaft? I took my old one apart, but I can't remember how I removed the input shaft.

Think about it, if the bellhousing is shorter, that eats up some length from the overall size of the tranny.

I am in the process of doing a t-5 swap and i was told you dont need the spacer but for the angles to be right and the driveshaft to be fully in the tranny correctly you need the spacer. That if you dont it can cause problems down the line. Im not postitive about that but just figured i would put out there what i was told. Some people talk about it in the tremec threads if you read up on some of them.

Yeah, but what happens if you put the longer bell on there? It should be the exact same length as the SN95 t5 then.

You're right there, but I thought you meant if you used the shorter bell. keep in mind that you would have to switch out the input shaft.

mricci, I just spoke to another guy who did the fox tranny swap and he's not running a spacer on his car and also had to weld that plate to the crossmember. FWIW, he's got a 331 stroker.
