T5 hitting the floor... Mount too tall?

I am in the proces of putting a 302/t5 in my 91 LX(ex 2.3 auto car) Anyway I put the motor from the donor car(91 GT vert) in it along with the K-member Saturday.

When I pulled the trans from the donor car the trans mount was bad(rubber torn) so I threw it out(should have kept it)

Anyway I put the trans back into my car and purchased a new rear trans mount from a local parts store. The T5 is sitting tall and up against the floorboard. The trans is close to the trans tunnel everywhere but the only spot that is actualy touching the floorboard is where the the shifter mounts. Of course the auto shifter assembly was removed long ago so now there is a hole there. well the shifter plate is stitting up against the tunell and I even bent the tunnel a little bit when I jacked the trans so I could fit the boltrs for the trans crossmemeber.


So I am wondering what is out of whack that is causing the trans to touch thew floor. One the vert there was plenty of room around the trans it seemed so I am thing the new mount I bought it the culprit.

The new mount is 3 inches tall. Is that normal to be this tall? I did not bother to keep the old one as a reference so i cant compare them but it does look taller than the one I threw out.

Any idea on what it could be?

This is the most common and often overlooked item when doing a T5 swap. The hole in the floor is different from a manual car to auto car. you need to trim the hole so the shift tower fits w/o hitting. remove the center console or pull the tranny and cut the opening just enough for the tranny to clear. I have read where some have modified the tranny mount to lower the tail but it changes the drive shaft angle to much causing joint wear and vibration, the right and only thing to do is cut the hole. If I remember ( it's been awhile since I have done this) you trim about an 1" or so from the front part of the hole (towards the fire wall ) the shift tower usally hits in the front with plenty of room in the rear. good luck.
