T5 in 69' Stang w/351

New to Stangnet, but not to the obsession of Fords I will post a few pics of my other love besides my Mustang at the bottom.

Ok,
Here is what I have and I am looking for some info.. I have a 1969 Mustang, it came with an FMX automatic , but was swapped out for a C4. A buddy of mine wanted the C4 for drag racing, so we swapped his T5 for my C4 set up. The question I now have is, what flywheel/ Clutch set up do I need to get for my stock 69 351W? Will I be able to use the stock 90ish Mustang T5 bell housing and possible the same stock cable operated throw out bearing set up? I have heard that a mid-late 90's F150 flywheel/Clutch set up will work? Oh, what starter do I need to plan on using?

Milds built 351 with Lunati cam, Windsor Jr heads, with roller tipped rockers and full length headers. Ran 9.3 in the 1/8th last time I had her out.

Thanks in advance, I am trying to get my ducks in a row to get my drive train back in the car so I can work on some body work and get it painted and start driving it again.... man I miss driving it, it has been to long.

use the 83-93 T5 bell housing and a 157 tooth 28oz balance flywheel, with what ever pressure plate you like, and a disc for a T5. i like a 10.5" clutch as that is the largest that will fit the 157 tooth flywheel. as for the clutch linkage, check out DazeCars, Ford Galaxie Mustang tech and restoration he has the brackets and the slave cylinder for putting a hydraulic clutch linkage into the early cars. you just need to pick up master cylinder and the fluid line.

Awesome buddy, thank you, I really appreciate it. I have searched till my eyes are crossed and didn't see exactly what I was asking.

I did a pull type wilwood slave/master cylinder on my Bronco, and I thought about doing the same for the Mustang....hummm

Yes rbohm pretty much got it. Your same starter from before will bolt up and work just fine. Unfortunately a cable setup just isn't going to happen in our cars. The cowl dips down too low for a quadrant. Hydraulic is the best way to go on these cars even though it is the biggest PITA to setup and bleed properly. Once it is working though it is great. Wish cable would work!

Modern Drivelines cable kits works great in a 69. I have it on mine. I did have to clearance the cowl a little to make room for the lever that pulls the cable but that was easily done by just pushing down on the clutch pedal a few times and let the lever hit the bottom of the cowl and bend itself out of the way.

Also I dont see why the ron morris cable clutch wouldnt work. that should work just fine but you'll probably get more leverage with the Modern Driveline cable.

Those cable setups work only with select headers. The quadrant design IMO is a far superior design to the ron morris kit. I don't know too much about the modern driveline kit as that kit was not around when I was doing my setup, otherwise I would have considered it, I would prefer a cable any day to hydraulic. I would not risk cutting up the cowl unless you got that whole car apart, it will be very prone to rust.

I will probably go hydro, you can see in the lower left of this pic how I put the wilwood puller slave cylinder on my Bronco, plan to do something similar for the Stang: TON OHV, Jeeps, and 4WD Galleries :: Floor Pan Lower :: S4300009
