i was wondering if anyone has ever replaced the output housing on a t5- mine is leaking because it has a crack by the seal- i heard you can just lower the trans enough to replace the housing or should i just pull the whole trans out--thanks

It's a PITA to take the housing off with the trans still in the car...but it can be done.

You need a few hands that know what they are doing because when you put it back in you need someone to align the shifter block to the rail

18 mins to remove the shifter boot and inner shifter trim, remove the shifter, jack up the rear of the car, place on jackstands, remove the 4 DS bolts, remove the driveshaft, remove the h-pipe and crossmember, unbolt 8 bolts holding the tailhousing on, go back into the car, drive the roll pin out of the shifterblock, then go back under and wiggle the tailhousing out while a buddy holes the shifter block and slides it off the rail.....

and then do it all backwards.

I could do that in 18 mins :)

I think we are talking about two different things here. You are just saying replace the bushing and rear seal.

I am talking about removing the entire rear tailhousing of the transmission if the case is cracked and needs to be replaced. The crossmember and h-pipe definitely need to come out to take this part off.

I will give you a call next time I have to do it then. :D
