I am looking for any advice on my install. I am going to remove my t-5 and install one of D&D's T-56 Magnum kits. I really have not had experience with V-8 trannys and am looking for any tips. The t-5 looks easy to remove, but the T-56 weighs a bit more and looks like a beast. Am I going to need to unbolt the engine to get an angle where I can mount this thing. I need to replace the pan as its seeping a bit and believe the rear main seal is leaking also. Like I said any pointers or experienced folks chime on in.

Any extra info on the rear seal change would definitely help.

When I get this going, I will shoot a thread on the install. For now, its all about the planning.

Thanks for your time.

T56 is a bit heavier. I just replaced my rear seal 2 days ago, it's pretty simple if you're careful.
Take a very small screw driver an pry it out (or you can use a small screw and drill into the seal and then pull it out) pry out on the block side. DO NOT pry against the crank. Once you get the old one out you can use it to put the new one in. Line up the new one and set the old seal over top of it. Going in a circle GENTLY tap the new seal into place, you don't want to knock it too far but just set it flush down in there.

I've never done a t56 swap but I have dropped/installed both within the last month or so. The t56 is a little harder to situate on the way up but you shouldn't have to move the motor. But if you're replacing the pan you'll have it loosened up anyways.

I am looking at the tunnel underneath and I think I may have to unbolt the mounts to angle the motor a bit. Not sure yet. Did you have to do the same to get your tranny back in?

Another big question I need to ask D&D is if I am required to index the T-56. I havent received the tranny yet, so I am not sure if the bell bolts to the tranny and its installed or if the bell housing is bolted on then the tranny is applied.
