I have been planning to rebuild my T5 for some time (hard shifting, grinding, popping out of gear, etc) but today leaving for work when I shifted to 2nd something popped and now theres no 2nd or 4th, and the shifter feels wierd. I can move it to 2nd or 4th and it wont fully engage just grinds when I let up on clutch and when its in 5th it looks like its in the nuetral position between 3rd and 4th. I was only going to buy a rebuild kit but what could have broke, I would like to have everything before I start cuz I dont want to tear it apart and wait for parts cuz I find somethin else wrong. Any suggestions?

Looks like your gonna have to yank it and open it up to know exactly what is broke and needs to be replaced in addition to the standard rebuild parts.

you better do it asap before it eats itself up and cost you more money in parts

I turned around and parked it after it broke, just wondering what could break and take 2nd and 4th with it.

I have to take it on base to fix and I have to pay for my garage time and I dont have alot of time to wait for parts while its tore down. Can anyone tell me where I can get other parts besides rebuild kits and gears?

Buy a rebuilt one, or a new one From Jeg's. Not too much money. Don't mess around with trying to fix that one, if time is critical. You can prolly swap one in less than a day, if you aren't doing a clutch, too. T5s swap REALLY easily. Mine pops out of 2nd. What is the most likely cause of that?

I think Rick Hanlon Motorsports is the place that sells the video. I have only heard good things about him and his product. He sells the rebuild kits, too.

it sounds like you broke a shift fork, and dependant upon what happened, you may have gotten the cluster gear and second..... and 2nd and fourth do not use the same synchro as posted above all gears have their own.

IMO if you broke gears internally, the price for buying the gears and the rebuild kit is not gonna be worth the difference to just buy another one..... the gears are about 40$ EACH and the countershaft is anywhere from 125$- on up... so maybe you just got off cheap and its a fork.

I got my kit from Astro Performance today $199 and it has everything so I should be ok with that just hope whatever else I trashed is cheap. I will deff do buisness with AP again fast shipping and good customer service. I found a couple of cheaper kits but they didnt have a small parts kit or didnt come with a tailshaft bushing, and I really didnt want to order an ebay kit.
my leave just got approved so the rebuild is on.

That sucks. Were you getting on it? I hope I have the chance to "manually" or rather intentionally blow mine up one day rather than it deciding to poop out on me when I am baby shifting it, lol.

So i got the trans out and started to tear it down a lil bit, and i found out my prob lol The 4 bolts that hold the short throw to the trans were super loose ( like 1 turn and they come out loose ) and when i would try to shift it would lift up the plate My goal was to have the trans completly torn apart and cleaned by to day but the shop im at didnt have the right bearing puller so im gonna have to rent one. The rest of the trans looks perfect no chipped gears, or any contact marks. Well thats the good news heres the bad: theres a tapered roller bearing on the front side of the output shaft that didnt come with the rebuild kit and I need it ASAP, also I think the numbers that are on my trans say its a NWC but I have fibre lined syncros, a brass 5th, and tapered roller bearings? Heres the #s can anyone help me out?

if you could take a picture of the input shaft i can tell you if its a cobra t-5, the imput shaft should have what looks like a bearing cup made into it.

if you have fibre lined synchros it's a pretty safe bet that ist is a WC
