I bought a T5 from craigslist a few years ago and am just now getting around to gathering the other parts necessary for the swap from my c4...here are some pics of the internals, i just took it apart tonight to see if it would need to be rebuilt first, looks like i got lucky...one question though...the main shaft has play in it...i think its just because the tail housing is off of it, can anyone confirm thats why there is play in it...

Hi,
I suggest you find out what class this T5 belongs to. You don't won't to spend money on an inherently weak T5 version. As far as the "play" goes, is it lateral or perpendicular to the case? Check the rear bearing and it's retainer. Could be the "retainer" is held in-positon by the tail stock. But again, research the case numbers to determine what it was designed for. You don't want a 6 banger being used in a V8.
Good Luck!

Measure the input shaft to confirm its from a V8, see link below.

I'm also doing this swap in the next few months. I have everything purchased except the flywheel bolts, bell-housing bolts and how I will actuate the clutch (I think Mustang Steve it his kit will work with my headers). All these little things add up and take a little work to find....

I would recommend going with a hydraulic clutch. Mine was about 220 in parts and I dont have to worry about burning a cable.

From what I can tell all of the internals look great...I think its been rebuilt before because the I'd tag ews gone and it had the black gasket stuff on it rather than an actual gasket, idk, maybe that comes from the factory that way?

I was able to determine its from an 88 GT, 265 ft lbs...not the best t5 but enough for my application...
