What is needed to do a t56 6 speed swap in a 01 gt. Will it bolt right up. will i need to buy anything? and what would my gears be like as far as racing.
They will bolt up. But you'll need different flywheel, modified cross member, shortened Driveshaft, modify floorboard little so that T56 will clear. and you'll have to figure out reverse lock out wireing.
here is good article. I don't know if yours have T45 or TR3650, but if you have TR3650, then article is word for word apply to you if you do chose to do this swap. And if you install T56 in to stock 3.23 geared GT with near stock power, you'll be slower. I think you can install 4.11 or even higher gear then you'll be fine I think http://www.stangnet.com/pbullitt/tremect56/index.html http://www.stangnet.com/tech/t56/
I don't think its THAT hard. as long as you spend your time, I think you'll be fine
with the D&D kit, do you also need the cobra clutch/flywheel assembly? the site doesnt state anything about clutch or flywheels if thats another issue.
I just finished up my T56 install into my 2000 GT.. I didn't have to beat in the floorpan at all.. or modify much of anything.. I even reused the T45 crossmember, by sliding the plates with the attached nuts back, an inch or so..
Everything bolted right into place, and the install took less than 2 hours with my buddy giving me a hand.. We used hand tools, and worked on the ground..
Here's what I have..
Viper-Spec T56
8 bolt Fidanza flywheel
Spec 3.5 clutch with correct spline for Viper input shaft
Cobra driveshaft
Stock T45 mount
GM coolant temp sensor plug, wired to brake light switch(for reverse lockout fix)
