T56 Owners

I am in the process of getting all the items I need to install a T56 in my 67 Coupe with a 393W. I am thinking of going with the hydraulic throwout bearing setup. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

I have the McLeod hyd throw out bearing and really like it's feel but take the time to measure and set it up correctly or you'll be in trouble. And yes the experience talking. I have a 66 so there maybe some differents but I was able to slightly mod the clutch pedal and using a threaded rod you'll have plenty of adjustment. I was worried that it wouldn't last but my T56 has been in the car since 05 and since I reset it there have been no issues. It complements the newer feel of the 6 speed and I also used a restomod shifter so I could sit back in my seat and change gears and that's been a good buy. Are you cutting the floor/tunnel to get your angle correct?

+1 on McLeod and relocating the shifter. I forgot to space my throwout bearing at first, tried bleeding it and realized it was maxed out with a 1" gap between the bearing and the pressure plate. But I have an odd setup with the T5 bellhousing. If you can get one that slips over the bearing retainer sleeve it will be better for spacing in my experience. I have the same bearing in my Barracuda.

I tried to fab up my own clutch pushrod, gave up and bought Dazecar's modded pushrod.

I moved my shifter back about 15", it's like sitting in an F-16 cocpit with the stick just to my side. The square plate bolted to the top of the trans is where the shifter used to be.

It's 13" center to center but the Viper shifter leans forward about 2"

Yes, I will cut my tunnel if I have to to get the correct angle. I like that shifter relocation.

I have some questions about the relocated shifter. Is this a purchased item or did you make it yourself? Is the secondary shifter mounted to the floorpan? Wouldn't that cause problems when the tranny moves?

Not sure who you're asking, Shakin66 and I both relocated the shifter but I suppose I can answer for both of us. Shakin's is the Roboshifter from Mustang's Plus. Mine is a Z06 shifter rotated 180 degrees. I made my own adapter and coupling. Both shifters are bolted to the trans hump. The tranny isn't supposed to move but if it did you would just have to find the right gear when you shifted.
A problem I did run into when I tried moving my engine/trans forward a little, it knocked my shifter off center at neutral because it pulled the shifter link forward which caused the shifter handle to push backward.

I made one of those Restomod shifters when I had a T5 in my car but I like that Z06 set-up better. Where did you get it? I looked on Ebay but did not see any.

Ebay,

here's one but it doesn't have the base
Z06 shifter
I cut into my t56 housing, it might be more involved than you want to get into.

There are other options.

Yea, my shifter is a much less involved install. Either way you go it's a major improvement.

Thanks for the info and great pictures. I think I am going to do the Z06 style but bring it straight back instead of offset. What did you guys do for speedo, reverse lights and neutral safety switch?

The link I sent you (Billet shifter) is basically the same thing as the Z06 piece but a bolt-on. If you do the Z-06 mod straight back your shifter base will be sitting on the driveshaft. If you raise the shifter to clear the driveshaft then the shift rod will be above the tunnel and inside the car. Also, since I pulled the ball stud receiver from the shifter rail, I no longer have a reverse lockout because there is nothing for the lock to butt against. On occasion I will downshift from 6 to 5 and accidentally grind reverse.
Food for thought.

Speedo, I use an electric speedo gauge that is programmable. I pick up a signal from the reluctor ring and ABS sensor. I don't have reverse lights from the factory but on the side of the trans there is a plug for reverse signal. Neutral safety switch, I grab the shifter and make sure it is in neutral before I start the car.

When I installed mine I was concerned about the nuetral issue and in fact installed a small button that I had to hold down for the starter to engage. But I later disabled that and now just check to see if its in gear. I have yet to do the speedo yet but there is a guy on Ebay that sells a box to convert the trans to Cable.

Just for your information the restomod shifter requires no special mods to install and if you want some additional pics let me know.
